SD26 firmware is on the web now! On bittorrent, and on a server

The proper code is also available direct from Seagate. Contact their tech support and they will email you a download link. A slightly more reliable method of getting firmware updates than some random torrent or website I feel. I do wonder sometimes, people spend thousands of ££ on a MBP and will then happily upload some arbitrary code downloaded from the internet to update the machine.

Hah, I second this. I've heard of people downloading firmware updates for their MBP through torrents.... probably one of the dumbest decisions I've ever seen.

Mine shipped with SD26, have had no problems with mine. Though I feel that an upgrade to SD26 for those with 25 will not have much of a change at all (only very minor things changed in 26, so minor that they didn't bother publicly releasing it).

I am a strong believer in only updating firmware if you are experiencing a problems which the subsequent release fixes. If everything is working fine then just leave it be. It would however help immensely if hardware firms actually released decent notes about what bugs are fixed in each release.

I believe this should be a responsibility.

I concur with your first point, but upgrading, especially firmware, can result in performance increases and efficiency in the hardware can be improved, which can improve the life of your drive and could help prevent disaster in some cases (even though the company may not even note this). I believe this highly in hardware (though, we can't forget that the exact opposite CAN happen if the build wasn't thoroughly tested, which goes with the fact that one should not upgrade firmware right when it comes out unless necessary.)

It is, however, very difficult for me to say that with the fact that I believe in the "don't fix it if it ain't broken" clause.

That sendspace link is legit. Many people on notebookreview have successfully upgraded the firmware on their hard drive from that iso image.

I agree that if your drive works fine right now, why update? Performance benefits might not be there.

sd26 torrent work fine!
