Can confirm, sends bitstream Dolby Atmos to receiver. My receiver lights up with Dolby signal and confirmed through receiver app.

"For what it's worth, utilizing tvOS 12 beta 2 and Infuse Pro, my receiver does indicate Dolby Atmos when watching a TrueHD 7.1/Atmos movie. When playing the same movie on Plex using the nvidia Shield, it indicates Dolby Atmos-TrueHD 7.1. I'm not sure why it displays differently or if it means anything...
In Infuse, when setting audio output to "Passthrough", I get no audio, though when it is set to "Auto" I do get audio indicating Atmos - the audio has a delay when starting (several seconds after the video starts), but is in synch. Hope this info helps someone."

I got a Samsung tv using tv speakers, but I don't see Dolby Atmos appearing on my Apple TV 4k. Is there any settings on the tv I need to adjust or do I need a home theatre system for this to work?

Do you have a developer account? Did your download ios12 beta 2?

If you’re just using tv speakers, on a Samsung, you won’t get atmos.

Yes tvOS 12 beta 2 installed today, I am using only tv speakers maybe that is why I don’t see Dolby Atmos.

Atmos is meaningless without an Atmos capable receiver and an Atmos speaker setup. 5.1 and 7.1 sound is all on the same plane, meaning all sound is coming from the same vertical position. Atmos enables sound to come from a third dimension to create three-dimensional sound.

I suppose a TV could have a speaker in the top of the TV, but the degrees of separation would be negligible and you won't have surround speakers.

So, if yo are going to bother with Atmos you need a full-fledged Atmos system.

Well, my Marantz doesn’t like the Atmos signal. I don’t get any sound for now.

I'm really disappointed with Apple! According to Dolby (link below) sending DD+ and Atmos over PCM is substandard. I suspect Apple has chosen the quickest route to support Atmos with ARC along with DD+ but not TrueHD. Due to bandwidth constraints, it's not possible to support TrueHD and Atmos with the original ARC together and this is why I suspect TvOS only has native support for DD+.

Apple really should just give us the option of bitstreaming the audio to get TrueHD and Atmos (thus losing the ARC capability) to our AVRs and TVs. The second preferential longterm solution would be to support eARC which operates at a higher bitrate to support ARC and Atmos.

If Apple were to allow bitstreaming audio then this would likely mean Siri would no longer work because Apple would not be able to include system sound in the DD+ stream but I would to sacrifice Siri and system sounds during playback to get proper Atmos along with TrueHD through my home theatre receiver and 7.1.2 system.

It really disappoints me that a company the size of Apple can't put more resources onto the ATV 4K to make it a killer device! This is 2018 and DD+ was the standard of 10 years ago. My 2017 AVR and 2018 OLED supports eARC which allows Atmos along with ARC. Why can't the 2017 AppleTV?

There are Android devices available for half the price that offer bitstream Atmos and TrueHD output over ARC. Unless Apple can offer this option then we have to look to other devices with proper media streaming functionality or wait forever for the AppleTV to support eARC and knowing Apple this will likely require purchasing a new Apple TV4K (version 2?)

What in the world are you going on about?

It does bitstream atmos. It's not sending it as PCM. Atmos can't be sent as PCM.
NO streaming services support lossless audio. None of them. Why would apple need to support it? Not netflix, not vudu, not amazon, certainly not hulu, not google play movies or fandango now or HBO go. None of them.
However you can send lossless audio over PCM just fine. Infuse on the ATV does this. PCM or bitstreaming lossless, the audio is exactly the same.

Devices don't support ARC. The TV does to feed audio back to the receiver. The only reason to have ARC is to feed TV audio back to the receiver. This has nothing to do with the ATV or any other streaming device. ARC is not part of them.
These devices should be connected to your receiver since you have one.

Which titles? I haven't been able to get any to work so far.
From what people are saying it's any of them that have atmos. More discussion on the AVSforums and firecore forums.

I have atmos setup and download beta 2 for TV OS with Atmos enable. Can’t get any Atmos stream from the titles that says already have Atmos! Have tested several today, will test bladerunner and jumanji also, so far I only get PCM, no bitstream. My Xbox and Samsung BluRay works properly with Atmos.
Maybe the titles on iTunes not have been updated, also it can be different in wish country you live in! Sweden for me

Is anybody getting Dolby Atmos showing on a receiver when playing aTrueHD track using direct play from Plex?
