Apple plans to release the second beta of iOS 18 to developers on Monday, Apple spokesperson Fred Sainz told The Verge. The information was provided as part of a statement on certain new iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia features that will be delayed in the European Union.

Two of the features that will not be coming to the EU this fall are set to debut in next week's iOS 18 developer beta, with Apple introducing support for iPhone Mirroring in macOS Sequoia and expanded SharePlay screen sharing across iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia.

iPhone Mirroring allows an iPhone to be controlled via a Mac, with full functionality for accessing apps, interacting with notifications, and more. SharePlay screen sharing will let Apple users take over the screen of another Apple user to provide technical support and other help.

Neither of these options are available in the current iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia betas, as Apple is rolling out features during the beta testing period. Apple Intelligence, which also won't be coming in the European Union, is set to come out later this summer. Apple will likely time it to the public beta, which is coming in July.

Apple says that it needs to delay some features in the European Union because of the complexities of making sure they adhere to the regulations mandated in the Digital Markets Act.

Hopefully improves the battery drain from Dev Beta 1. Been 10-30% worse than usual most days on my 15 Pro Max. Seems to have gotten worse over the past 3-4 days. But expected in a Dev Beta 1 for a new iOS. Can’t complain overall. Been fairly stable on iPadOS 18 on my M1 12.9. watchOS 11 has been the worst. Frozen screen, unpairing, unable to add other workouts to a current workout, bad battery drain on my Watch Ultra.

Sainz also reiterated that Apple Intelligence will be available for beta testing this summer, while iPhone mirroring and the expanded SharePlay screen sharing features will roll out in a developer beta on Monday.
I hope it does arrive on a Monday for once with iPhone mirroring and the expanded SharePlay screen sharing features enabled. Being able to see and control the iPhone on your Mac screen should be extremely useful without having to logon the iPhone with a locked screen.

Anybody know if iphone mirroring will allow landscape orientation and the ability to change the size of the mirroring window on the Mac?

Interesting. Everyone’s talking about them not bringing the features to the EU right away but not about Apple announcing when the second beta comes out. When have they ever done that before? At least speculation thread doesn’t have to guess on when the second beta releases anymore. Lol

Because iOS 18 without AI is utter trash 😂

Gradient icons ffs.

I have lost all interest in iOS 18 as long as the most valuable company in the world is unable to design its services to comply with the regulations of the democratic countries in which it operates and instead blackmails governments by instrumentalizing consumers/their citizens against them.

Doubtful. Beta 2 & 3 are usually much worse when it comes to performance based on past experiences.

iPad OS 18 developer beta1 has been the most stable beta release compared to other past versions. Hoping the update doesn’t break any of the existing features.
As it should be, it doesn’t have any of the possible-breaking changes introduced yet. It’s basically just the updated UI along with some other features that aren’t AI-related.

I still don't understand fundamentally why the EU is governing how Apple should run their business. If people want Android features that gives you more features and customization, they can, when looking to buy a phone and weighing up the pros and cons of each device according to their needs, buy an Android. If they want a polished ecosystem, they can buy an iOS device...? Each platform has their own strength points, and the beauty of choice is that people can choose.

That being said, for me personally, I'm happy that iPhone now uses USB-C, but that should've been a change that Apple made. If people were truly pissed off with iPhones (including their stubbornness with lightning and lack of side loading), people would switch and that would push Apple organically to adapt their phones.

Fully agree. The same should be applicable in each sector: automotive, medicine and so on. As a customer, I'd like to tune the car as I want without loosing warranty and so..., however, EU is very biased!

* not for EU

I am so sick of this ****. If there isn't a workaround I am switching to android. They give me no other choice.
Gemini on Android was delayed for a month or so in the E.U and the UK, why the U.K. I don't know as we are not in the E.U any more. But I got a notice on my Android phone a couple of days ago about it and about changing to use it from Google Assistant, which is strange as my phone have Alexa as the default assistant. More useful for me than Google.
To be honest, I am not interested in this new AI stuff, I have never used it and IU doubt I will. The only reasons I use Alexa on my phone is to turn my coffee machine on before I leave work so it is nice and hot ready for me to use when I get home or to control my central heating, again before i leave work, so the house is warm when I get home.
I use Duck Duck go for a search engine, on all my devices.

So even when this AI stuff do end up on my Mac, it will not be used.
