Apple plans to release the second beta of iOS 18 to developers on Monday, Apple spokesperson Fred Sainz told The Verge. The information was provided as part of a statement on certain new iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia features that will be delayed in the European Union.

Two of the features that will not be coming to the EU this fall are set to debut in next week's iOS 18 developer beta, with Apple introducing support for iPhone Mirroring in macOS Sequoia and expanded SharePlay screen sharing across iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia.

iPhone Mirroring allows an iPhone to be controlled via a Mac, with full functionality for accessing apps, interacting with notifications, and more. SharePlay screen sharing will let Apple users take over the screen of another Apple user to provide technical support and other help.

Neither of these options are available in the current iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia betas, as Apple is rolling out features during the beta testing period. Apple Intelligence, which also won't be coming in the European Union, is set to come out later this summer. Apple will likely time it to the public beta, which is coming in July.

Apple says that it needs to delay some features in the European Union because of the complexities of making sure they adhere to the regulations mandated in the Digital Markets Act.

Hopefully the 30% additional battery drain will be addressed. My iPhone 15 Pro Max needs to be charged several times a day. It’s insane. You can literally watch the battery percentage tick down.

Also anyone else noticing lower max volume in AirPods since updating?

Battery on the Watch Ultra is also crap. Other than that, pretty stable. Well, except the Nordstrom app no longer works.

Never messed around with that. Is there a particular one you recommend?

I use Parallels because IMO it’s not very expensive and it’s very easy to use. They’ve moved to a software as a service / annual subscription model but I believe you can still buy the current version without a subscription if you don’t mind not getting free version upgrades in the future. I think if you go that route you get any upgrades released for the next year but beyond that you’re out of luck. I’ve gone the subscription route for the last few years so definitely don’t take my word for it and check out their website first. If you can’t find a version without a subscription I’d try calling their sales department and see if you can get a license that way. They have a 14 day free trial so you can totally try before you buy.

If you want something that’s free you could go with UTM. If you Google the name of the software you decide to go with followed by “install MacOS Sequoia beta” you’ll find instructions for how to do it in whatever software you decide to roll with. The two I’ve mentioned are just both products I’ve used previously that have worked for me.

Just be aware that you’ll probably get get an error message when you try to install the beta in a VM unless you install the X Code 16 Beta on the VM host machine first which you can get from the Apple Developer website. You don’t have to do anything with it. You just have to have it installed for whatever reason.

* not for EU

I am so sick of this ****. If there isn't a workaround I am switching to android. They give me no other choice.
Yup that’s the result of the government interventionist monopoly when they put their very large thumb on the scale of free markets. If that even is such a concept anymore in the EU…idk as I’m not a citizen of any European country nor do I have any business interests that rely on them, but from what I’ve been seeing you folks are rapidly on your way to losing your power as consumers.

I can’t use my iPhone and Vision Pro at the same time. This is awesome as I don’t have to take off my AVP for FaceID or Microsoft Authenticator.
Thats not doable, mirror iPhone to Mac running macOS Sequoia which is mirrored to a Vision Pro.

But, I wondered, what if you mirrored a Mac that was mirroring an iPhone in the Vision Pro? It seems like the ideal workaround in theory, one that would solve the headset's annoying inability to play nicely with your iPhone. But, unfortunately, it won't work. We've heard from knowledgeable sources that Apple's hardware only supports one of its Continuity mirroring features at the time. So if you're sending your Mac's screen to the Vision Pro, you won't be able to mirror your iPhone at the same time.

I feel like ever since iOS 12, the initial betas have been decently and relatively stable; nothing like how I remember iOS 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11 first few betas being: super glitchy, terrible battery, few to no 3rd party apps working due to crashing.
The gotcha's are always with later betas where new features are initially enabled in the weeks after WWDC. Sometimes its takes several seeds or even multiple increment cycle releases to work out all the discovered instances. But usually these last few years as you observe the beta associated with WWDC is fairly useable or solid to a degree.

Thanks so much for such an elaborate explanation — I will look into this!

Shoutout to the brave souls testing the early betas loaded with all these new goodies that probably mean a proportional amount of bugs that come with them 😬
You all are willing to walk so the rest of us can run with the more stable betas later in the summer 🫡

I have used Parallels Desktop in the past and I have started using VMware Fusion Pro which is free for personal usage. I tried UTM, but currently no 3D support, so I would stick with VMware Fusion Pro.

That’s your choice. I don’t doubt that Apple is “stigginit” to the EU for the way they regulate products in the Eurozone.

The EU has the right to regulate business as they see fit. Of course there are unintended consequences to those actions.

Apple has the right to roll out their features as they see fit, and I SUPPOSE a few people will decide to switch to Android and leave Apple all together.

But I suspect the number of people who leave will have little to no impact on the bottom line of one of the most valuable companies in the world.
Exactly! By rolling out certain features to how they see fit every year, with both their hardware and software, by their own ideals and goals, that's how they became successful and why people enjoy and depend on their multiple products

So is it implied that iPad OS won't be able to mirror?? that is insane...

I’m sure if it’s not on the roadmap for iPadOS 18 then it’ll be there in iPadOS 19. The idea of using SharePlay / mirroring to take control of not only your own iPhone or iPad but that of a relative or friend who needs assistance is too tantalizing for Apple to pass up. Since iPadOS is so heavily based on iOS I don’t see why they wouldn’t include it eventually. What would be the downside if most of the code is out there in iOS and macOS already?

Well that settles it. I was going to wait until the 2nd developer beta to install iOS 18 having already installed it on my iPad but if they are coming out with it on Monday and it’ll have iPhone mirroring then I might as well install both the iOS and MacOS betas and rip that band aid off.
Back in August of 2014, I installed the beta of Yosemite on my Mac and I didn't like the way it ran; not sure if it was because it was a beta or because I'd never done a beta on a Mac before

Hope big techs join forces and shutdown critical services in EU until EU stop be awful. EU don’t care about people or innovation, just want to tax everything that move.

I’m european and in last years every decision EU makes becames bad for it citizens.

But it’s not just EU policy, much of which makes sense (especially the bottle cap mentioned above), it’s also local laws, copyrights, other partner companies (or rather the lack thereof) and a multitude of languages to work with. Which is why we still do not have Apple News (and as a One-subscriber I pay for that and would love access to at least the US version, not much interest in local media anyway), no Apple Card and a Siri even worse. All features and rather a lot of products come with a massive delay to other countries. Actually a stronger EU would be better for US companies as there would be a direct partner to talk with instead of 20 local bureaucrats in each country. The thing is that one the one hand Apple has to say Adieu to some monopolistic strategies, while on the other the EU has to understand where an OS simply cannot and should not be too open. There is a middle ground that works for companies and customers alike. And no company likes regulation, European Banks always bitch about it, but as a consumer these are mostly made for us. Remember roaming prices before the EU cut in?

Good to know. But not installing any betas on my devices. Will wait for the public release in September.

You’re putting being able to eat safe food on the same level of rights as being able to sideload an app on your phone?
I can't speak for the op, but I am pretty sure op meant that some laws/regulations are necessary in society. OP is using a hyperbole to illustrate a point that without any regulation, you will have a society that will run amok.

On the other hand, if you don't regulate food safety, you could reduce the population significantly, especially those that are not too bright(?), so it might not be a bad idea after all. Let Darwinism rule!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
