I cannot ever imagine where some dude will come up, grab my phone, point it at my face and say "unlock it" I'd unlock a whole lot of foot in nuts!!

Serious security flaw with face id and not touch id, if somebody picks up your phone scans your face their in, not so with touch id, Apple need to rethink this before launch hope the press pick up on this
A lot of apps have the ability to use Touch ID now to open the app. I would assume that those same apps on an iPhone X would still work that way except using Face ID instead of Touch ID.

This may work if all they wanted was access to say your text messages or your email.

If it was a thief it would be more effective for the them to just ask for your passcode immediately, then verify it works by unlocking your phone by using the passcode. At that point they could add themselves as a user for Face ID and have full access to your device. But nothing prevents a thief from doing this now with Touch ID.

The real way to deal with a would-be thief of your iPhone is to immediately slam it on the ground as a football player "spikes" a football after scoring a touchdown. It is most likely that the phone would be rendered immediately and completely inoperable, thus ending the perpetrator's interest in your phone and eliminating the possibility of any immediate access to the data.

Even if you did not purchase AppleCare+, you would still be eligible for the out of warranty replacement cost. This all assumes, of course, that you have no other means of preventing the theft.

I wonder if FaceID will be able to differentiate between identical twins.

Oooh. Another security flaw!

Who are these people that have people walking up to them to grab their phone? I must be too old and grumpy but I've never been in that situation and don't know anyone else either. If they do, I'd say here you go...

Flipping heck, I've got a much more expensive watch on my wrist if I was a thief I'd take that one instead. Rolex doesn't have any security on it <shocker>

I don't see many thieves trying the grab n dash but It will definitely make it easier for Girlfriends, Boyfriends, Kids and other nosy people in your life to get into your iPhone.

I've got all those people trained to fear me. ;)

They are apparently the same people who are regularly confronted by police and made to unlock their phones, and who have spouses/partners whom they can't trust not to go to any lengths to violate their privacy.

It was the same thing when TouchID first came out. People think up any ridiculous scenario that has never happened to them in their lives, but has suddenly become inevitable in their mind.

i doubt they care if it's unlocked or not. the first thing they'll try to do is turn it off.
