The security update didn't completely install for me.
Did the long download and went through the motions of installing, then rebooted to a screen with this message.
"The install could not complete, unable to locate resources", Restart and try again.
The wording might not be exact but that's pretty much it.
So I'm off to try again...
Happens to me... but on an Hackintosh. What I do is unplugging all external hard drives and internals too. I guess you could at least try this. Hope it helps!

Interesting how these security updates on Mojave appear to create a temporary volume called 'MacOS Installer' then boot to that volume to actually run the updates.

I assume that is because of System Integrity Protection. If an Apple left a way for an installer to bypass it to perform upgrades, then others will try to exploit it for both helpful and malicious reasons.

Anyway, from reading the thread it sounds like there is no reason to worry about upgrading, which is what I read the thread to check.

Safari still uses significant energy (dGPU) for me, wish that would be fixed.

I still use Mojave on my iMac due to a few legacy apps I need to use. I live in a rural area of South Africa where internet is horribly slow and data quite expensive. Rather than using Software Update, wondering if I can download an installer from an Apple web page (would do so at a data center via my MacBook Pro). This way I could update the iMac for the security update without incurring significant data charges. Thanks

This is Apple's standalone download link for 2020-007.

So @jbarley , did you succeeded to apply the update finally?
I did, the long hard way though, would have been much easier if I had waited until the standalone update to come available.
But not knowing Apple's time frame I proceeded and after removing all drives following your suggestion including pci nvme blades and booting from a single SSD installed on the internal sata header I got the update to completely install.
Then a simple CCC copy back to my pcie nvme boot drive and everything is good.:)
But what the hell, I'm old and retired and I do this as a hobby to pass the time, and it surley did that.;)

I don't have a new notifications badge number. Sounds like there are two updates, but my badge is still stuck at 1 for the OS upgrade I have declined to install. What's up with this? Isn't the number supposed to change when a new download is available?
I noticed this morning that I was not being offered the new Security Update 2020-007 on my 2012 Mac Mini, while I did see it on my ancient Mojave patched 2008 MacBook Pro.

Downloaded the installer and it turns out that the latest security update will not install on my Mini because it requires APFS.

Any chance you are also using a HFS boot volume?

Minor issue: had to flush DNS cache in order to connect to a Windows SMB server.

Could connect with Finder, but got beachballs every time I tried to copy file/folders.

Reboot and DNS cache flush removed beachballs but copying is still slower than from a machine running Security Update 2020-001 for 10.15.7 Catalina. There's still a tangible pause between dragging files/folders and copying actually starting.

Even worse, the Catalina machine was on WiFi and the Mojave machine was connected via Ethernet and the Catalina machine finished copies to/from server of folders with 1.3 GB of data FASTER than the Mojave.

Good news. In my case, I didn't applied it yet. Waiting a bit...

Thank you for this update. I have a client experiencing the freezing and am hopeful this will resolve it.

Before this update fiasco I have never ever had any issues updating a DosDude1 install. After the 005/Safari update explosion my current working partition stopped booting on its own. I just get a blank screen. If I use the Option key and go into the Startup Manager, the correct volume/partition is selected and all I have to do it hit Enter and it boots as it should, but slow. I have tried every thing I have in the past to fix this type of thing and some that I have found lately in searching about this. But just can't get it to boot on its own.

I'm trying to move to a better faster drive in D0S2, but Office 2011 won't install and M$ is giving me headaches. So I'm just hangin' here until I figure it out. I'd rather shovel snow . . .

macOS 10.14.6 (18G7016 - 2020-007). Safari (that I don't use) 14.0.2 Release.

Can't get this -007 update to install ("...unsupported by this hardware..."), but I skipped -006 due to problem reports. Is -006 a prerequisite for getting -007 to install on Mac Pro 3,1 Mojave?

That's a separate issue since you're running Mojave on unsupported hardware.

My memory is now jogged somewhat; there's some sort of way to modify the security update .pkg to install, but I've been searching for thirty minutes and can't find the thread that describes the process. I think I used a tool for 004 and 005, but my memory is shot. Anyone have that info?

Anybody else noticed the doubling up of the System size? Also it seems that the optical drive disappeared from the About This Mac/Storage.
