No I wasnt talking about gamesthat casual. I was talking more the likes of the line hd, world of goo, Bug heroes, line rider hd or whatever that cool sledding game is called, Spirits hd, osmos, perfect cell, battle of wesnoth, etc.

Look at these games for instance:
http://justanothermobilemonday.com/...sh-and-a-crash-launch-or-landing-on-the-ipad/

Here is an ipad game thats 99 cents and better than any psp or ds game to me and thats all that matters:
http://toucharcade.com/2011/01/19/dungeon-defenders-update/

And bug heroes too is better than them (to me atleast and again thats all that matters):
http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?threadid=79910

Same thing with battle of wesnoth and bug heroes. Wesnoth was 99 cents when I got it and has like 100 hrs of gameplay and is better than fire emblem in maturity and content. Heck even this game is probably better thsn those typical fire emblem or portable fftactics games:

Just because you dont like them or havent tried them doesnt mean they arent as fun or any less real of games as chess is or any of the call of duty clones you play.

Ipad games are more of an art and experience than some geek fest based on frags with endless callof duty clones like console games have bedome. If u dont believe me just take a look at this:

Pure art, thats where gaming is going anyway.

And just because u dont enjoy those sokoban puzzle games doesnt mean they arent good games that will make u think. And dungeon defenders that is on sale for a buck is very competitive and has online play unlike any psp games like monster hunter. Psp sucks more than any console ever made by sony and the first design had worse controls than a touch screen. U couldnt even do diagonal jumps with it.

All I see is you stating your "opinion", so you dont like psp. Fine that's nothing more then your opinion and no one is saying you cant have it, but you come off as whining and for what? From what I get, your bitching about apple haters while ignoring your own hating against those you dont agree with, its a bit hypocritical.

Indeed, I mean really the iPad is a super luxury DS but with the screens joined together.

I don't really want DS games to be honest. Gamecube games I'd love. Only some titles :)

The reason I loved Zelda Ocarina of time on the N64, of which I still have 2 consoles in box's is the superb depth and storyline to the game. I'd still rate this as the best game I have ever played.

That's my personal grumble at the moment with almost all the iPad games I've bought. I buy them, and 90% of them I never play them after the 1st evening, I just can't be bothered. I don't know why. I suppose there is no evolving story to lead me into it. Hopefully in time this will all change. It's just a shame Nintendo still makes hardware, if they concentrated on software and sold to the 360, PS3, PSP, PC, MAC, iPAd etc market, you would think they'd make a bomb as it's software that they do so well.

Try Civ Rev or SimCity. I've been addicted to those ever since I got my iPad (6 months now).

The best thing about iOS is that you can play against people you actually know and want to play against. For example, I can play a game of Words with Friends against my mother or my sister. They both own iPhones. Neither of them would go anywhere near a PS3. iOS is very accessible, precisely because it isn't a games console.

But then, people who like games consoles are typically quite tech-savy. iOS may not compare to a console, but it beats the living daylights out of Android or WP7 for gaming. So my console-owning friends also have an iOS device, I can play against them too.

iOS games are also fantastic value for money. We need more FF-length games and a good multiplayer FPS, but developers take the platform seriously. I'm sure those will come.

Oh, and while we're on the topic, I'd like to point out that FIFA 11's control scheme is indeed a steaming pile of turd. Nobody go near it.

Any of u beside me thought the glyder series were better than starfox ds or the wii nights into dreams game? Before they were pulled of course :(

And beside glyder series, monkey balls 2 controls great via tilt as well.

And to the poster above, have u tried chaos rings or eternal legacy?

And beside glyder series, monkey balls 2 controls great via tilt as well. And how many games like ascendancy, galacy on fireor warpgate does ds, psp or the 3ds have?

Wow Toucharcade. Well Da... It's Toucharcade. They are the epitome of a gaming excellence
IOS gaming is for fly by night gamers who have a few minutes to kill. The ports of the games listed are short lived.

There is a little something called tactile feedback.

How to tell you are not a gamer:
1: You play or looking to play Angry Birds on your 55" or larger HDTV.

2: You spend an hour or more a day playing "We Farm", We Rule or "We Something"

3: You signed up for Gamecenter and use it religiously.

We gamers of the world salute you but stay off of Xbox Live and Playstation network. It's not for children, which is what 99% of IOS games are.

I'm not giving up my PS3, Xbox or Wii for iOS gaming. Sorry.

You think all those long and complex adventure puzzle gsmes on the ipad like 7th guest, myst, raven, newly released Hamlet or Drawn the painter tower hd that ign gve a 9.0 to are short lived? Have u ever played a nintendo wii game lately? Name me one long live game by even nintendo on that system. Kirby was shorter than any ios platformer imo.

Actually it is for children, it is full of radist bigots and trolls and teenage losers who sit on their couch all day creaming racial slurs and insulting others over the internet. Online game networks are just horrible unless there are no chat or voice features and the community actually goes there to play the game. At least most ios gsmes disabled chats from the online games. And why do u keep bringing up angry birds, i never played thst game and even so its better than those crappy 3d wananbe final fantasy remakes or psp games. And i mentioned a bunch of games already on here thst arent casual so what other evidence do u needa. Even pc only gamers play those types of adventure games and ot wasmvirtually the entire market wt one point. So obviously ppl enjoy tthem just not you.

Its also better at puzzle games look at world of goo or the line hd. And nintendo games, handheld or otherwise wont ever compare to computer games in terms of depth either. But to tell the truth unlike you I hate those hecagon war games or turn based games as they take too much time to learn and sitdown and play. Even age of empires 2 would tske hours jsut to plsy one game. That has always been a peoblem and why pc gMing is dying. It takes too much time investment for one game.

But also the nintenso and sony handhwlds will never have elder scrolls or sins of the solar empire like games unlike the ios devices and ipad. Games like ascendancy will never be ported or accepted on those platforms nor will they get stuff like aralon or galaxy on fire 2.

Reread my posts on this thread and realize all the genres I mentioned. Point and click, adventure, sandbox space, sandbox western rpg, puzzle, etc. How cn you be hard on a system with such cheap prices for superior experiences at least in those genres? Not superior to pc but to portable game systems that always have been dumping grounds and inferior to pc and console anyway.

The problem is too many of these devs make games with uiversal oriphone in mind instead of just the ipad. That probably wont change for a few years if the tablets keeo growing that is.

:/

As an Apple fan and a gamer, I disagree. The iPhone is a fantastic casual gaming platform, but it's very bereft of deeper experiences.

Looking at the list of games in the OP...

Chu Chu Rocket (full port)
Infinity Blade (better looking graphics than anything the Wii has put out)
Soosiz (Mario platformer)
Plants versus Zombies (more fun with touch controls)
Monkey Island Games (the recent remakes, with full ability to switch between remake and classic graphics)
Monster (a personal favorite, overlooked. Similar to Plants vs. Zombies but much more active, with full shooting and swiping mechanics. Download it !)
Spider (unique platformer, gorgeous to boot)
Doom
Secret of Mana
Nova 2
Shadow Guardian
Modern Combat 2 (Note: Gameloft's "remakes" are professionally done, technically apt and with great graphics and lots of content. The dev teams are working wonder with the hardware and produce some magnificent looking games. 5v5 competitive gameplay is also found within the latter two titles. Some say they may lack 'soul', but I personally enjoy the B-grade dubbing and silly humor.)
Prince of Persia: Warrior Within (full port of PSP version, BETTER music)
Osmos (cool physics based puzzler. Look into it)
Doodle Jump
Death Worm and Super Mega Worm
Sonic 4 (Fun game, I bought it for $2.99 during a special sale and I found it worth the purchase. Not worth more than $5.00 though)
Undercroft (deep, long, and HARD dungeon-crawler, with stunning retro graphics and design)

If we remove puzzle games, ports, and clearly casual/repetitive games, we get:

Infinity Blade (I actually really like this game)
Soosiz (A limited platformer...beautifully stylized, but lacking on actual reflex play and no ability to speedrun. Closer to Kirby's Epic Yarn then Mario)
Spider
Nova 2 (clunky controls)
Shadow Guardian
Modern Combat 2 (Haven't played, but the trailers and gameplay videos show almost no reflex-shooting; targeting looks inferior to a console or PC control scheme)
Undercroft

As the entirety of the high end of the platform's library.

When compared to what the DS and PSP offer, and the software lineup on the 3DS, it pales pretty badly.

And we'll never see a playable fighting game on the iPhone, sadly. I really can't see it being done well with a multitouch screen. Not in a manner which allows for competitive play.

Super Smash Bros Brawl :3

The Metroid Prime Trilogy...Zelda...

Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2...DKCR...Tatsunoko vs Capcom and its 50+ hit combos that required absurd tech skill...

There's lots of good stuff from Nintendo. (Though that last example was Capcom, love it and had to bring it up) Even then, the Wii is often criticized for the small number of quality titles.

You still dodged my points that kirby and most nintendo made in house games are short lived. Most games in general arent long and in depth unless on the pc or if multiplayer is counted. And dkcr isnt made by nintendo either. Anyway most people only used the pwp for homebrew or emulation as it only had cheap ps2 knockoffs and I disagree with you entirely. I find good games worth playing released on a daily basis for the ipad. Like look at that Hamlet game.

If we remove series games with better ps2 versions, ps1 games, ps2 spinoffs or ports or games later ported to the ps2, what good games does the psp have? Onlynin the last years of its existnce it got anything interesting and still were spinoff or worse than the ps2 versions like metal gear or kingdom hearts done to death. How many machinariums or limbos did the psp ever get? How can you say playing ipad games at the fraction of the cost is worse than those crappy psp games where u cant even do diagonals and use a rwppy nub? And the ipad pop is better than the psp one simply because of the screen size and graphics.

And ur not gonna see many in depth or complicated games on the ipad outside of ports like ascendancy -- same thing with the other protable game systems -- because no one makes ipad games for some reason. Despite it already selling like 17 million they just make iphone games and port it to the ipad oruniversal games.

Like I said I uncover great iPad games daiky:

http://fabledlands.blogspot.com/

"Some more information for you guys, on this game which took 2 years of dev, 12472 hours of work with 30 people and 15 2D artists xD.

What is a gamebook?

A gamebook is a book that you play while you read it. Each section has a little bit of story and then a decision for you, the player, to make. Your decision takes you to another numbered section of the book, where you read the story that results from your action.

Why are the Fabled Lands gamebooks so "special"?

Most gamebooks are like points in time that come together in a single linear story. The Fabled Lands books are locations in the world, and you can play them in any order, even going back and forth between books.

How are the iPad Fabled Lands apps different from the paper gamebooks?

You mean besides the massive art and gameplay upgrade, the tweaked and extended text, and the whole new dimension of sound? Your iPad will take care of all the "bookkeeping" and "dice-rolling" for your adventure. No pencil and paper needed.

How do I play on my iPad?

Tap on the screen to advance the text and/or make selections. You can also refer to menus, such as your inventory, by tapping their icon. Engaging in combat and using abilities depends on the statistics and equipment your character has. See the "mechanics" FAQ entries for details.

For me, despite its 'kiddy' content, Lego Harry Potter is the most impressive and console-quality game on the iPad.

The touch-to-go-there, swipe-to-attack, gesture-specials controls work well (better IMO than the virtual sticks users begged to be added) and it's a full four sprawling 'episodes' with multiple levels - hours and hours of gameplay at top quality.

This is a model for 3D adventure gaming on iPad. I've played it in preference to consoles since Xmas.

These are a few:
Super Mario Galaxy
Super Mario Galaxy 2
Mario Cart
Super Paper Mario
Donkey Kong Country Returns
Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Not my type of game)
New Super Mario Bros. Wii
Call Of Duty:Black Ops
Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition
Metroid: Other M
LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4
Sonic Colors
Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition
No More Heroes
Dead Space Extraction
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Monster Hunter Tri

Puzzle games are for people who can't shoot, multitask, or jump effectively, which would cover non-gamers. Boring

Sorry your experience is less than par. Not sure what you mean by "keep binging up angry birds", I think I have only two post here, this being the second and I mentioned it once. Yes you mentioned a some games that are a little more than casual, but nothing as deep as Metal Gear Solid 4, any of the GTA games, etc. Moreover, I never alluded to ppl not liking the IOS games, I am just thankful that those games are limited to IOS. If I ever see "We Something Something" start to take over PS3 or Xbox I hope I'm too old to care.

Oh and the GTA games and the Socom games on the PSP do not suck and have a nice length to them.

Tactile feedback or nothing...

O...K... 1st, I play WoW, i've got a job (Medical Technician) and a hobby (Scout Leader) a lot of people who i know play WoW also have jobs and hobbies.

2nd I like playing freemium games and social games as they are quick and ideal to fill in the few minutes during my commute to and from work (also not bad on a loo break either ;) )

And isnt the defining pooint of 'gaming' to fill the void of time with something, so in essence 'proper gaming' is a big timesink too! But isn't everything a timesink?!?!

You got it backwards...Jobs are the timesink, you work so you can go home and play...:D

I like puzzle games as well as mystery point and click games with great art direction because they make you think and the atmosphere. Rpg games to me however, are boring with similar storylines pointy haired chracters and battle systems that are repetitive. Yet people love them. So just because you dont enjoy the genres that touch screen excels at doesnt mean they arent good games. Some people dont want tactile feedbakc or dont care, Ive seen threads on toucharcade where people were pissed at the mention of it because thsn it would just become another fps fest or console. I mean all those playstation systems are allstarting tofeel the exact same. Think about it. Even all those psp games youmentioned have better ps2 and esp ps3 versions and the ps3 has nothing really going for it from the ps2 outside grpahics and. Couple new franchises like little big planet. Sony is just lame now, much less innovative in all aspects than apple. And Microsoft is also a joke when it comes tosnything but paying people a bunch of money. And there are tactilefeedback controls coming to ipad this month like fling and stuff. As cheap as any wii or console controller too.

And the fact you cant become proficient at a game with no tactile feedbaxk when others can shos just how softcore and not hardcore you really are since any hardcore gamer woule twke on the added challenge and dominate thse games too. Real gamers take on added challenges and conquer them kind of like playing fps games on thst crappy psp nub. Thats also hardcore for ya.

This is total gibberish. But that's OK. It matches the games you like so it all falls into place.

Many people not just me prefer indy steam games over retail relealses like the half assed Left4Dead with four maps or so they released with a sequel a yr later. Just look at the steam sales od some of these small games. I dont want to sit down for 2 hrs even on a pc to play a game or go through tutorials. I want a game simple to kewrn but challenging and wth lasting appeal like the original starcrafy. Not crap like those total war games or sins of the solar empire or those europa universaois games where it makes no sense without tutorials. And i like the ipad becausei dont like those japanese games, i like more western style games or rpgs with kinds and vikings and knights, not point haired feminine heroes. Plus ive played those japanese games for years since the snes and am tired of them. I still like some nintendo stuff like mario but all those rehashed metal gears, kingdom eharts, final fantasies, etc. Are geting stale sorry sony. And the ipad offers more of a pc style experience with games like aralon and galaxy on fire and those dventure games without the complicatedtutorials and such ( well ascendancy still has that ). Its just way more comfortable playing games on a couch than crunched in front of a wooden desktop chair like I have to for pc games. Its just a preference man, sorry if it hurts but I probably would have given up on gaming if it wasnt for the ipad. I would buy these $50 games and only touch them like twice. No game besides the original starcraft on pc and shenmue captivated me. None of hese console ps3 or 360 games ahd anything on how they used to make games in the late 90s.

Touch screen gaming is the future On portables. Look at even sony adding it to the psp2 whether u like it or not. Look how good ds touchscreen only games like zelda play. All it takes is you cheap a$$es to buy a pogo stylus and you would have the same ezperience on a much larger, an more beutiful ipad screen with games like world of goo and others. Ad more will be made, maybe even ones like zelda all it takes is desire, and maybe reaching out to some devs. And if apple actually included a stylus in future ipad recisions it would help.

Why do you need anything than the current control method for hardcore ipad or app store games like military madness, Wesnoth, Ascendancy, Galaxy on Fire 2, world of goo, romance of the three kingdoms or any 3d racing game like reckless racing or NFS Shift? Those games are all deep and long and work perfectly. I dont get why you people think racing games are more fun or realistic with a nintendo ds dpad or a crpapy psp nub that cant even do slight angles or tilts or turns and doesnt have a great degree of motion. with a accelerometer tilt it is a lot more like a steering wheel and ther eis a greater variation of tilt. Heck try playing jet stunt cars on the iphone and tell me it would control any better on another system or that it isnt hardcore. o and btw, Im gonna keep posting on here until you so called "real" gamers prove me wrong.
