It's the simple things that Photos lacks for me.... like being able to rotate an image without having to edit > press the cropping tool > rotate > save.

Also it would be a nice addition if Screen Rotation would disable itself when you've got an image or video open.

I'd like to be able to find out file sizes too... and sort by date (Ascending/Descending), File size, etc.

I remember using Google Goggles in the aughts and being amazed that I could feed it a picture of a particular house (a not-very-famous landmark), and it could recognize exactly which house it was and show me other pictures of the same house (along with some pictures that definitely were of other things).

What's cool about Apple's "invention" is that the recognition is happening in the phone itself, not some massive server.

But will the results then sync across your personal Photos estate (i.e. onto iCloud Photos and back to your Mac?)

Junk shots: 7000 images found!

Instead of these gimmicks I wish Apple would just fix the scrolling in iOS. Android is so nice to use because all it takes is a subtle finger flick to scroll through long pages. On iOS you practically get CTS just trying to read the comments at Macrumors.

I do like how this is done on device. The idea of FB and Google using my photos to build a library of my contacts, where I've been, what I do, etc. and building a profile of me always creeped me out.
Yeah, I noticed that in the WWDC Keynote, Craig kept repeating "locally on device" a number of times.

Do you keep all your photos on your device? I off load mine for further screening/filtering/processing.

How? You don't have enough map data on your device to do broad location recognition like that. Don't see how it isn't coming from a server somewhere.

I wonder, can you add custom tags to photos too? I keep a lot of stupid memes on my phone that I'd like to be able to tag with keywords accordingly. Or at least tag them as "Meme" so I can sort through them separately from my regular images.

does anyone know whether editing live photos in ios10 allow cropping?
does it allow detailed editing such as saturation, brightness, and so forth?
currently in ios9, once i started to crop a live photo, it will just become a normal photo

Looks good, but how will this interact with the faces tags which I have done on my mac in Photos? Will the assembled albums also sync and appear on the mac?

I'm concerned about this as well...I've spent a lot of time going through my photos making sure everything is tagged, and I'd hate to have that superseded by this. I really hope any tagging and metadata editing the user has already done will override any changes the iPhone wants to make.

thought the same question. I have been hoping for more Aperature like functionality and this gets us a bit closer. If they have integrated it well i would expect it to sync correctly between iOS and macOS. Can't wait until public beta comes out so I can play with this.

Surprised there was no mention in the video about iOS 10 being able to handle RAW format capture and subsequent processing via Core Image.

For me, as a photographer, that's huge as that *could* mean the next iPhone camera might be able to output captured images in RAW format. And that Apple and/or third party apps would be able to process them.

An iPhone 7 with a camera that produced RAW files along with an app for processing would be by itself enough to make me want to purchase one.

I, too, haven't had luck with automated slide shows. I did make ones I liked in iPhotos, though. I would likely use this on my iPad rather than my iPhone, for the larger screen.

Guess aperture is not coming back anytime soon :(
Or ever.

I think full-screen > forcetouch-to-edit would be a badass tweak

I'm bothered by this general trend of increased facial recognition, and increased use of AI to draw connections between people, places and things. While Apple has emphasized a device-centered approach, all of this data is still vulnerable to intrusion. All it takes is one unexpected vulnerability; and your entire digital life can be scrutinized and shared.

I'd prefer to turn all of this stuff off. Aside from privacy issues, these features can potentially disconnect us from each other. I prefer to see a person describe a photo that they love and contextualize it. These features won't prevent that, but they will serve to gently push people towards reliance on meta-data.
