There is a "Reduce Transparency" option in accessibility that turns it off.
I already run that in iOS 18, MacOS 15 & tvOS 15 so hopefully the settings will be retained in xOS 26.

Yarp. That Apple is pushing the Liquid Glass stuff instead of real improvements to the OS or other useful features tells me what they think is important. Just like them making Genmoji the talking point of their AI project.Eventually what happens is you end up where 10% does 90% of the work and they spend their having to work on what the Top brass feel is considered sexy and forget the rest.
I do have it on two iPhones and one Apple Watch. I must admit, that it really looks good and usable. Readability is excellent and the glass effect is very nice. It does not block the background even if it blockes it. Do not judge screenshots or videos.
Besides that: The perceptible glass effect stops, if you do not scroll or move elements.
On the watch there is no huge difference btw.
There are plenty of people who require as stable as possible OS for mission critical work. This is probably why I've stuck with older OS for as long as possible.I mean these operating systems will always have some sort of bugs. I personally haven't found the current OS's very buggy recently. Fixing bugs doesn't entice most users to upgrade their OS or hardware so can't really blame Apple for not solely concentrating on fixing bugs.
They're not making money off me, since I won't move to a buggy OS. I'm sticking with Catalina until forced to upgrade. They are still in it to make money at the end of the day.
Do not underestimate the horizon of Apple developers and designers...Watched the developer video's on liquid glass, and came away with the impression that no-one over the age of 30 was involved in the making of it. Seems like its the kids designing for the kids, because it looks cool.
All I can say is this is why you need people like Jonathan Ive and Steve Jobs overlooking everything. Apple has gone down the toilet.
Tou can have translucent UI but must be done with more attention to detail like what UAC did with their PDA UI 😉 😁When I saw Minority Report, I remember wondering why anyone would want a see-through computer screen. Seeing things behind the glass would make my brain work so much harder to filter out the distractions coming through. I would want to see my text and numbers and pictures PLAINLY. Even if you frost the glass, why the heck do I want various shapes and colors showing through? There has got to be some physiological issues your head will be dealing with.
Not simply eye candy, but eye candy which will require a lot more power to render. So instead of bug fixes and under the hood improvements, we get eye candy. I'm glad Apple has its priorities straight.🤦♂️
And when the real fall begins, it will be so quick most people won’t even realize it.Watched the developer video's on liquid glass, and came away with the impression that no-one over the age of 30 was involved in the making of it. Well, if the “UI is put aside”, what remains? New emojis?Tou can have translucent UI but must be done with more attention to detail like what UAC did with their PDA UI 😉 😁

Btw: two days with iPad OS26 and I must say, UI put aside, that despite first dev beta this UI is fast though…
good, I think. I have that tuned on on my 13PM and I was checking that setting yesterday after reading some posts, and then yesterday also turned on "increase contrast" and that improved visibility for me quite a bit.![]()

You know what the beauty of Linux is?Let’s hope that this “Aero Glass 2.0” done well by Apple will stimulate also other platforms - see Windows and Linux - to return to the beautiful desktop environments of many years ago: flat and ugly design, go home…! For example, Ubuntu with Unity (and 3D effects, etc.) was much more appealing visually than it is today (rather dull)…
So, in your view, there is nothing fixed and no new features, only eye candy? Do I have that correct? So instead of bug fixes and under the hood improvements, we get eye candy. I'm glad Apple has its priorities straight.🤦♂️
I mean glass UI elements. But how it works and how fast it works is surprisingly good all is just right there and then gone as you need it to be. It helps to forget how bad this UI looks.Well, if the “UI is put aside”, what remains? New emojis?
I am genuinely curious as to why you bother posting here. Nothing Apple does seems to please or interest you so why bother coming to a place that doesn't allign with what you want?God, I love how clear and legible everything is…
Plenty of contrast and delineation between elements.
Beautiful functional design.
Thank you very much for this info.![]()

it doesn't work for macOS either. i never went out of a beta so fastLooks absolutely terrible and inappropriate for phone/iPad screens; across the board translucency for hardly sold wearable goggles is one thing; it doesn't necessarily work for other types of devices - it seems like the current Apple intelligentsia has forgotten its own UI guidelines.
same . if only they went the frosted glass route like on visionOS...I think this would be very hard for me to use, hard to find what I'm looking for and not be able to focus in on what I need to. I'm definitely going to not install this until I find out if it can be disabled. This could possibly push me back to Android, seriously.
...just wait for the Androids to create LiquiDroid UI. ;-)Liquid Glass is a brilliant move on Apple's part to shift the focus away from the questionable Apple Intelligence experiment.
Readability of this new version is certainly different and certain to appeal to those who like to be entertained by their iPhone. For others who found the current version of iOS smooth, fast and useful, their productivity is about to take a hit.
Suddenly Android is looking very attractive.
