I tried it out but it's just a bit too slow for my liking.
To open my downloads folder, it takes 6 seconds using Siri or 2 seconds by hand :\

Maybe for setting a timer or something? Even then...

Anyone know if Siri on Sierra is always listening like on my iPhone 6S where I just say, "Hey Siri..."?

If I'm typing and need an image, I'd like to be able to just call out, "Hey Siri, do a web search for a picture of the Sierra Mountains."

I think that's the key to Siri being useful on a Mac. So you can keep working on something while you use Siri to accomplish another task. If you have to stop to open Siri it would seem to be pretty pointless, if that were the case.

I hope they add the capability to type commands in; sometimes need to work in quiet environments or privately.

The most "exciting" feature, which is Siri according to Apple, still remains the most useless and boring feature to me. Especially on a Mac.

It's slow, not all that smart, and requires data to work.

Siri might become useful when she reaches the level of the assistant in the movie "Her". But until then, it's nothing but a nuisance and a gimmick.

If she had Scarlett Johansson's voice then maybe Siri would be good

So what they are saying is that you need to use your keyboard to activate a voice activated assistant?
I still can't understand why the "Hey Siri" feature doesn't exist everywhere. That's the only thing which makes sense from the whole Siri thing. That and an offline Siri.

I just installed the developer preview. I'm from Regina (rhymes with...) Saskatchewan, Canada. It was funny to hear Siri pronounce it Ra geena. I wonder if Apple are going to fix the pronunciation lol

As a Canadian living in Beijing, my Chinese is not great at all. Siri was't able to understand my Chinese. I said Ni hao and Siri brought up a map of Kekaha Hawaii lol

Still kind of fun to use though.

I have a hard time believing people use Siri on the iPhone and can't fathom using it on Mac.

You are wrong.
It's only that for some reason people seldom use it in public.

Useless on the phone, useless on the computer.

Fully agree.
But useful on iPhone, iMac, Apple Watch and Apple TV!

Siri on my Mac... Not A Chance!

But I'd bet the little girls will love it.

Call me 'little girl'. ;)

Isn't this "feature" even just a teensy weensy bit futile and pointless? Not even just a smidgeon? No?

No! Because thers nothing more rewarding than teaching a voice recognition program how to make sense of verbal requests even though it actually takes longer to speak than type in the end, eventually.

It doesn't matter if Siri is a pointless gimmick, what does matter is that humans enjoy a challenge.

And Siri certainly gives that.

Instead of wasting time on our iPhones in public, we now have the 'freedom' to procrastinate in private. Yes!.

It's very nice, but it uses a lot of energy. I used to use it on my laptop until I realized how much it was using while idle.

i've been using BTT on laptops & desktops macs/hacks since 10.6 and, while there may have been some issues with certain releases, the developer is very active and responds to mails quite fast, don't hesitate to send him your specific issue, he'll fix it !

Let's all just stop development until Your Majesty decides it's okay for us to catch up with your amazing tastes. Thanks so much for guiding the unwashed masses.
