I get bourbon and whiskey confused all the time. One's from Kentucky, one aint. I stand corrected.

I agree for a low-shelf vodka, Smirnoff is certainly better than Skyy or Absolut. That Skyy almost made me hork after one sip.

I guess its because im a shot kind of guy, and Smirnoff tastes great going down. Its sort of an aquired taste of sorts. My dad thought i was nuts for drinking Jack as my 1st alcoholic beverage.

I kinda wish I had aquired a taste for beer before trying liquor, because now I cant drink beer. Its gross to me. Which means im SOL when it comes to parties because liquor is generally in short supply.

Not that I drink of course, seeing as that would be highly illegal.

Beer IS disgusting. I don't care what it is or where it's from. Beer is nasty.

Well yeah, all the ones Ive tried. And I try any beer someone throws at me, at least once, because hey, this one could be different! Wrong! They all taste the same. All blonde beers are gross.

I still havent tried Guinness though. I really really want to. I'm hoping it will change my perspective on beer in general. If not my good friends Jack, Morgan, Goose, Jim, and Abby will always be there.

I really enjoy Spatan.
Its probably my favorite beer currently (it changes quite often from trying new beers).

I would recommend it, but probably not as your first few beers. It also doesnt have a bad aftertaste like many many beers

Guinness might make you throw up in your mouth. Dark beers taste like fermented coffee and are very heavy. I've learned this about beer, the more you pay, the nastier it usually tastes. ;)

Hmm. Well, I have to at least try it. Who knows? Maybe I'll like it. Won't know until I try it.

There. Fixed.
;)

Haha :) What international beers would you suggest?

First off congratulation on turning 21. While I have just recently become of age legally I have been drinking for several years now. So allow me to make some suggestions.

As far as liquor goes I have been fond of Amaretto (Disaronno preferred) I also really like Irish Creme. When it comes to the harder stuff I honestly haven't had that much variation. I once had some scotch that really knocked me off my feet and had a very good after taste (certainly a sipping beverage). Sure I have had my fair share of screwdrivers and peach rum. Southern Comfort is good and have had it a few times. Once shared a bottle of Jack with my brother and few friends which was also rather good and can knock you off your feet if you are not careful.

A lot of people aren't beer people, I am. I love a good brew (am looking forward to my Munich trip next month for partly this reason). Not sure what kind of beer you have drank in the past but the guy suggest that you start with Bud Light is misguided IMHO. Perhaps you won't acquire the taste; however, try some different beers. While I love the lagers (Heineken, Shiner, Zeignebock, Tecate). I also have found enjoyment with Fat Tire which is an Amber Ale, and I hoping to try more Ales as time progresses.

My roommate is slowly making me into a wine-o. He has introduced me to a number of fine Red Wines. While I think my favorite has been the Shiraz (apparently 2005 was a very good year for the California wine makers) he has introduced me to a number of Cabs and Merlot's. Last night we had a nice bottle of Chianti with dinner.

I don't like alcohol except wine, but Corona is one of the exceptions. Cocktails made with Kahlúa are good, too.

For me I am a fan of tequila but that is not a drink I recommend someone take straight for their first time. It is an acquired taste that I just happen to like.

As for a good starter drink my favorite is a long island ice tea and margaritas. Those were among the first drinks I had and I really liked them.

Also please be careful on your first time as it will take VERY little for you to feel it. My first drink was maybe 3 shots of vodka and it got me pretty out of it. The first full beer I had I could really feel it.

Also getting drunk is not worth it.

Try some whites as well. Chenin blanc, pinot blanc, sauvingnon blanc are all excellent. If you can get your hands on a French Chablis, do that as well. It's expensive, but worth every penny.

OK, I know you were joking, but this type of attitude bugs me. I'm a certified beer snob, but I have had some American microbrews that I would put up against anything from Europe. American megabrews? Yeah, the old joke is right. They are like having sex in a canoe. But there are some excellent smaller breweries around this country.

Leekholer: I do not understand this blasphmey you speak. Beer is proof God (or fill in your favorite deity) loves us and wants us to be happy. :D

Sorry but- NO. Any beer is nasty, IMO. And there are tons of microbrews in the US that many beer snobs seem to like. You have no basis for your post. :)

Haha! To each his own, but beer just tastes nasty to me and makes me pee a lot. That's not fun! Especially at baseball games! :)

My roommate picked up a couple of bottle's of white wine, though I am not sure what they are. I have never had any white wine but I will look at some of your suggestions.

Riesling. Moscato. Best whites money can buy. Moscato is a bit harder to come by, but Riesling is pretty popular.

I am kind of leekohler on the beer part. Most beers I have had I just do not like the taste of.

That include beer from different parts of the world. Yes i do drink some and for a while I was trying beer from all over the world and different types.

Personally I have found I like Als. It has a very differet taste than beer and I like them. Just it is hard to find a good al.

To be clear, I'm not in favor of buying "bargain" vodka...but given that the $20 stuff tastes almost the same in a mixed drink as does the $40, why pay more...it's not like it's worth drinking straight up.

Oh, and yes, Benjamin Franklin was right--Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy :p

Get yourself a few glasses of Delirium Tremens and you'll be set right. Tasty beer....

Start the night by doing at least one shot each of straight vodka, straight whiskey, straight tequila. Then, do your "bomb" drinks: jagger bomb, irish car bomb, tequila bomb, etc.. Once you get the first shots down, you can then start drinking beer. The bomb drinks can be downed any time throughout the night, frequently, hopefully.

I like certain dry Rieslings. Both of those wines can tend to be too sweet for me though.

Not a fan at all of sweet white wine...much prefer dry reds. Had a great time sampling different wines living in France last year. Someone poured me a glass of mind-blowingly delicious red once that kind of made me realize that wine connoisseurs weren't just BS'ing. Found out after that it was 20 years old and €800/bottle. :p

That said, wine probably isn't a priority at a 21st birthday party in the US. Stay away from the Franzia.

Did you try any whites there? There are plenty of dry whites that are fantastic, especially in France. I love Alsatian whites in particular.

Why all the beer hate, its not for everyone but some of us like it. I don't really enjoy the American beers except maybe for Samuel Adams, but I like me some Corona, XX, and Heineken.

lol. i cna't drink alcohol at all. 1) im 16 and 2) i have uhh medical conditions that recommend me not drinking alcohol, or so says my doctor. whatever. at least no drunk driving "accidents" for me!
