Excellent opportunity for Apple to drive a little extra revenue
Yeah, I don't think there's anything excellent about a company that shouldn't have changed the previous warranty offerings to something even less.

But to add value to this conversation.
The US should follow suit to EU standards and require 2 years of manufacturer warranty with AppleCare adding another 2 years on top of the requirement.
Having a standardized warranty requirement for companies that produce annual cycles of electronic waste should mean they support those products for longer. Instead US citizens just accept whatever the heck is offered to them. And, you get morons that come on here and rave about it.

Would prefer an AC option without accidental damage coverage. In other words, a cheaper extended warranty.

AC+ is not worth it for me.

While AppleCare+ is not available in India, you can buy AppleCare Protection Plan within 1 year of purchase of your Apple product.

You can have AppleCare+ beyond 2 years for iPhone, iPad, AirPods etc. This changed in September when the new iPhones came out. You just have to pay monthly once you get past the 2 years.

Unfortunately Macs are still 3 years maximum and can’t be paid monthly during that time or after. Hopefully that changes.

I thought AppleCare + for AirPods was only for two years. I did not see anywhere mentioning that it warranty could extend beyond 2 years. Could you provide me where you get the info? I would like to have that option for my AirPods Pro.

My apologies. Looks like it doesn’t apply for earphones/headphones. Going to edit my post! I could’ve sworn it did. iPhone/iPad yes.

What? That wasn‘t an option. I even complained to them over the phone and was told there was nothing could be done as my MacBook wasn’t eligible for AppleCare anymore.

Maybe you purchased the computer after AppleCare+ started, or things are different in your country, but it wasn't a problem at all in the US.

The online thing said you had to call, I called, the agent knew exactly what I wanted. They can't take credit card numbers over the phone for security reasons, so she set up a cart and e-mailed me the link (which was the awkwardness alluded to by @Kelly the Dude ), I paid online, and in a few minutes the paperwork showed up. The cost and terms were the exact same as the non-plus AppleCare.

You "morons" come on here and rant about how much more Apple charges in the EU. Can't have it both ways.

That's a totally separate issue. EPEAT and I think Energy Star, requires 5 years support guarantees. CA state law says 7. This is independent of warranty.

Also supporting devices for longer means you need to stockpile more parts due to uncertainty in failures, that end up being discarded. A large amount, if not the majority, of spares are tossed. It's not a zero environmental cost.

Hopefully this becomes the norm. For people who don’t upgrade often this is a big deal.

Apple is transitioning to services and increasing unit prices as revenue sourse from hardware sales is declining. Thats will be a great way to prop up both and tie up more people to Apple ecosysystem

Very generous and unusual for Apple. They acknowledge that some people will do some research in the 12 months post-purchase and after seeing that their product is likely to be faulty and require repairs, they will purchase the very costly AppleCare+. It is a win-win for Apple. The customer feels grateful that the Cook empire allows them to buy insurance later than usual and Apple reaps the financial benefit of selling insurance on products that should be fit-for-purpose at the time of sale. Barnum would be proud!
Does seem like a win-win.

So basically, they are making it the way it used to be, where you could add applecare at any time up to the device's standard one year warranty expiry, except they are adding extra steps of having to go into an apple store to talk to a not genius. LOL. Still, better than nothing I guess...

Anybody know what Apple Store are in this pilot program?

I tried the Westfield Valley Fair in Santa Clara, CA and they have not heard of it. Called Applecare and they don’t know either.
Anybody know of a store in the Bay Area that is in that pilot program?

My iPad Air 3 had less than a month of warranty left. Stopped in to the Apple Store today for the blank screen recall, they replace the unit, and sold me AppleCare plus for $69. I now have coverage for two more years! Great deal, and better than I could have done if I bought AppleCare with the unit new.
