What? That wasn‘t an option. I even complained to them over the phone and was told there was nothing could be done as my MacBook wasn’t eligible for AppleCare anymore.
Maybe you purchased the computer after AppleCare+ started, or things are different in your country, but it wasn't a problem at all in the US.
The online thing said you had to call, I called, the agent knew exactly what I wanted. They can't take credit card numbers over the phone for security reasons, so she set up a cart and e-mailed me the link (which was the awkwardness alluded to by
@Kelly the Dude ), I paid online, and in a few minutes the paperwork showed up. The cost and terms were the exact same as the non-plus AppleCare.

And, you get morons that come on here and rave about it.
You "morons" come on here and rant about how much more Apple charges in the EU. Can't have it both ways.
Having a standardized warranty requirement for companies that produce annual cycles of electronic waste should mean they support those products for longer.
That's a totally separate issue. EPEAT and I think Energy Star, requires 5 years support guarantees. CA state law says 7. This is independent of warranty.
Also supporting devices for longer means you need to stockpile more parts due to uncertainty in failures, that end up being discarded. A large amount, if not the majority, of spares are tossed. It's not a zero environmental cost.
