The question for me is now whether or not to switch from gmail. I got first.last@outlook.com and I can't get that or any variation of that at gmail.com. The main concern is getting the mail on my iPhone.

Exchange ActiveSync

But I don't know if it behaves any differently to the Hotmail option in iOS 5 and above. Microsoft suggests Hotmail as of iOS 5, or Exchange ActiveSync below.

The worst thing is that only POP is available if you want to use it in Mail.app, but the web app is good now.

Why do you guys create new accounts? Any existing hotmail adresses will be tranfered... Right? My first name (Starfighter) was taken at hotmail and thus taken at outlook. Or am I missing something?

Don't think I saw anyone mention having a hotmail address. I haven't had one since like Windows 98 days and just barely.

I don't believe so. Outlook is completely new and any and all usernames were/ are up for grabs.

I currently use my Hotmail account as a junk account for CL and other things and it is lastfirst@hotmail.com

Yesterday I added a couple of aliases to my new Outlook account with one of them being lastfirst@outlook.com and I was able to successfully register the alias.

I have not imported/ merged/ or otherwise affiliated my old Hotmail with my new Outlook.

That's strange, because my old hotmail adress was transformed, when I logged into it, I got the outlook interface and it said blablabla@outlook instead of hotmail. But what do I know? I'm certainly no expert so I did as you guys and tried to create one with my name anyway - which didn't work as usual... :D
