The thing is, you're going to have to sell it for a huge increase if you're going to make any money. After all the ETF and PayPal and eBay fees, it's gonna be hard to make a decent profit. I would say at least $850 for a 16 gb gsm version for a profit of $150ish. I thought about buying multiple of these and sellling them, then decided I didn't want to deal with eBay and PayPal and all their crap.

yup the fees will get a chunk, you will only make money if you sell fast, price shoots up first couple of days after that it dies, a bunch of models are being shipped in 2 weeks or so , the hype will die down a bit keep in mind that a bunch of people will just line up the Apple stores to get theirs and are not willing to wait for shipping ....

I have no plans to sell, but I'm wondering to the folks who are saying the ETF is all that's needed, won't AT&T and Sprint charge you the activation fee and the first month's plan accrued bill, even if you don't use any voice/data? I'm not completely sure about Verizon, but I have been told that you can cancel the contract as soon as you get the package and won't be responsible for the service expenses.

I don't think so, at least not at the initial purchase.

why so much hating? i would do the same thing if i had the money even if i only turn 150-200.

im think a 16 gig ip5 will go for 900 if there is a shortage.

Hmm, but won´t the phone still be locked... so you´ll at least not get anyone from overseas to buy it.

At least on the Apple.com website they say that the phone will only work with the service provider that you choose...

I think it's more a matter of being a humanitarian. By selling, you're only looking at yourself... at the profit. However, by not scalping, what you're doing is essentially choosing to give your place in line to hold an iPhone box in your hand to someone who is an enthusiastic buyer and doesn't need to get ripped off.

Despite knowing that I could easily make a profit, I just don't do this sort of thing because I don't see how it's right. Maybe because I've been in situations with previous launches where I've seen this too much to ignore it, but then again... it's just a product/material. Nothing too important.

you have to understand that the buyer of this is choosing to buy this. Its just about business.
same thing with buying and reselling larger items for profit. Nothing wrong with it. nature of the world.

Thanks for the reply, I personally own a Galaxy Nexus, pleased so far, wouldn't mind keeping the iPhone 5 but rather make money off it. How long does it usually take for a second shipment to arrive?

I'm not sure about this, I am still waiting for mine :apple:

It's understandable that it's a way of life and putting bread on the table, but there's also a tip-over point beyond balance where the sale is abuse. And you say... "nothing wrong with it" and yet, that's exactly where morality steps in. Sure, the buyer may choose to be buying this, but some buyers aren't informed, and information is the key. It's not your fault that the buyer is unaware. You decide what to do from here. Should you opportunistically take advantage of the buyer's lack of knowledge? Or will you play it fair? I know many folks and colleagues who will do both. You probably fall in the former.

I was able to get 2 IP4s the last time around, both at the sub rate of $199. While I was able to sell 1, kids line and they didn't need a 4s, it was a big pita, but I did cover the cost of my phone in profit. Use this --> http://www.newlifeauctions.com/calc.html to figure the fees and get it out there now, promise they will have the phone next day and cover it. Just tack it into your price. You should at least make a couple of bucks.
BTW, I looked at completed auctions just yesterday and it seemed the going rate for a ip5, 32g was roughly $1400! I kid you not. It will drop, so do it now. Good Luck

I think the OP is going to be surprised when no one buys the phone because they can get it from their carrier or Apple.

what do you think of someone that sells a house for thousands more then what its worth and one person paying it? car salesmen..( i hate them but its a similar thing they do).
Stores do this all the time are they not moral also? hes offering something for someone that doesnt want to wait. people understand wants and some are willing to pay for it. If he makes a little money its not a big deal in my eyes.

apple has pushed out the dates to 2-3 weeks already. Its only been a few hrs. They will be hard to find for a month im betting.

Actually I think I'll sell it on Craigslist, actually I read that the LTE Verizon has international roaming capabilities but I don't wanna deal with ebay. I'm sure that there is rich people that are willing to extra. If a person wants to pay 200$ extra to get it early that's his decision, supply and demand. Low Supply= higher value. Shipping date on verizon is oct 5 now.
