I think a quick software update release from Apple would be smart. Even one that just fixed a couple small bugs and added an extra face or something. That may be the one thing that really makes the watch different than many others. The Citizen you bought is the exact same as it was 4 years ago. Reminding customers that the watch can evolve would be a smart move I think.

Right, same functionality. There is only so much that can be done in software.

What I forgot to mention is that I was hoping (based on the many rumours before the Watch was announced) that it had more sensors. I think future iterations will have them, but that's something that can't be added in software. I also think it will get a tad thinner. The watch currently sits quite high on the wrist (even the 38mm).

I've read a few articles suggesting they are there, they just haven't been approved by the FDA yet since those sensors could technically make it a "medical device". I can't remember where I read it, but I remember them specifically saying it had the capability to measure blood oxygen levels.

I'm in a similar position as the original poster, but I am going to try it for a full week at the least. Some of my thoughts after 2 days now are below:

The notifications when they work are ok, but not great. Many of the notifications are way too simple. Probably fixed by app updates, etc.

Haptic feedback is again ok when it works. OS prob needs an update.

Many of my emails won't display and I get a message saying "email can't be shown on the watch." Kind of defeats the purpose but I'm guessing that will be fixed in time.

The screen while nice is just too small and I need to scroll way too often. That's annoying.

The Watch is slow and slow to load but that spinning "waiting" graphic looks nice although it happens way too often.

Siri is hit or miss and no way to edit what it types incorrectly as far as I am aware. I will not talk to my phone in public which makes it nearly impossible to respond to texts without canned responses (take the phone out anyway)

The fitness aspect while nice is very basic but I do like the achievements. That may motivate some people. Wish it had GPS but that would prob kill the battery even more.

Battery life is an issue. When I workout at 545am for an hour my battery drain is about 20-25%. Not sure I'd make it through a full workday as I leave at 7a and get home at 7p. I will find out tomorrow when I get back into my office.

The Watch is too chunky. Probably the only Apple product that should be thinner but isn't.

I like the overall design (except the thickness) more than I thought I would.

The OS while slow is pretty intuitive. I've had no issues learning what to do although sometimes force touch doesn't do anything (no way to know this; only works on certain parts of the OS).

The biggest problem is the Watch (I have the 42mm Milanese loop) $699 is way too expensive for an accessory. The price is only slightly less then the cost of my iPhone 6 Plus at $849 and I find myself looking at my wrist (added step) and ultimately taking my phone out of my pocket anyway.

These are only two days of impressions and while I have lots of criticisms it is still a very nice looking piece. I almost like it more as just a watch then as a smart watch.

You do an hours workout at the crack of dawn and then do a 12 hour work day. I feel tired even thinking about it. Is that normal for the US assuming that's where you are, are are you extremely exceptional?

What I think will happen is apple will release new bands first next year. Then release just the watch itself alone reducing the cost the following year.

There's no reason to buy a new band every 3-4 years. Just like there's no reason to buy a watch every year. It's a watch. Apple is smart. They're going to invest in watch bands and watch faces, not watches, every year.

It's Apple, there is a new version coming out before next Summer, this is a device meant to be replaced. I'm sure Apple would love nothing more than to have you buy a new phone and a updated watch that can handle all the new features of the phone together.

I joined shortly after you and I agree with him. This may be an Apple site, but that doesn't mean we should set around all day and worship them. If you truly love something -- you're not afraid to criticize it.

To the average person I look like an Apple fanboy, but I always correct them. I'm just a fan, there's a huge difference. This site is divided among those two groups. People who think Apple can do no wrong, and people who love them, but aren't afraid to call them out.

Bringing up join dates is childish. The real Cookie Monster would never do that :p

Also you don't how long he/she has been visiting the site. Personally, I frequented this site for years before joining.

The Watch is just part of the spectrum of digital gizmos.

For some folks, having a laptop makes no sense. It's desktops for them, thank you.

Same idea. Your (OP's) use-case just might not intersect that of the Watch (as it exists today), just as some folks really would have no use for a tablet or a Macbook Air. Or a smartphone, for that matter.

(Example: as wonderful as the Macbook Airs are, for my use-case they'd make little sense. I need and use the compute resources of the Retina Macbook Pro. That doesn't reflect at all on the Air; it's just me, what I do, and how I do it. Same idea with you and the Watch.)

It's to no shame--yours or Apple's--that it isn't compelling for you. For others it is: frequent flyers, folks with frequent notifications, deaf folks who will value the taptic interface, etc etc. And then there are the folks for whom a cool new toy is just good clean fun.

Vive le différence! Just thirty years ago we had none of these options: it was a beige box on your desk, or nothing.

And it's just getting started.

Interesting to see people not liking the apple watch. Honestly the Apple Watch changed my perception of watches in general.

For those having a hard time justifying the Apple watch, I suggest trying on some regular watches within the same price range of an Apple watch. When I did this, wearing a regular watch felt out-dated. It was like all of sudden going back to using a flip phone. For $500-$800, you're buying something that only tells time.

Welcome! I find myself lurking sites for years before joining. Sometimes you just want to hear others opinions :)

I didn't mean it in a mean way loll but the people saying negative things about the watch after 2 days of use just bothers me, I mean really? You're going to judge the product after just 2 days? You didn't give apple to release a software update, you also didn't wait for other apps to be released yet...

Aside from the original iPhone when has Apple recently slashed prices on anything? It's not happening.

Of course it's not happening. This thing is made of way more expensive materials than most of Apples products - and they are trying to compete with the luxury business here. Not doing that by racing Google's partners in a race to the bottom.

No worries. I get it! Most devices need more than a few days. That's why I'm trying to stay positive. I'm not in love with my green 42mm sport, but I'll keep it around. Software updates can makes a device feel completely new. Also the dedicated apps could be a gamechanger :)

An hour workout is on the light side. I have a 45 minute commute to/from work and I generally work 9-10 hour days. I am in the USA :). I feel like a slacker compared to some of my coworkers but my hours are mostly productive.

So many Debbie downers here. This is version 1.0 and I'm sure Apple will have upcoming upgrades that will fix the problems addressed in this thread. Also I'm sure Apple will release the Apple Watch SDK in the next few months. I remember back in 2007 people were moaning about no being able to copy and paste or run multiple apps in background, or not being able able to set their own picture a background for lock/home screen. Then all of a sudden they fix these issues and even release the App Store. I think some of you are expecting the watch to replace your phone but that's not what it was designed for. So far I'm very happy with the watch. Yesterday I ran with it, changed my music during my workout, answered calls while biking, and of course checked my notifications without having to pull out my phone (iPhone 6+) yes apps do take a few seconds to open but I think it's faster than pulling out the phone unlocking, finding the app etc. it's funny because I don't feel tethered to my phone anymore. This product was just released so don't expect it to work perfectly in the beginning.

Lastly most of the developers couldn't even test their Apple Watch apps on a real device. Some developers were lucky enough to to fly out to Cupertino and test them out. Apple is also prioritizing watch orders to developers so that they can test their apps on a real device.

There is where I beg to differ. I have no problem spending $3,000 on a Louis Vuitton bag for myself because I feel that it is worth it (while most would laugh at me and say a similar bag for $60 out of a sweatshop accomplishes the same task of holding my laptop).

The Watch while relatively inexpensive at $750 doesn't currently justify its price to me. I'm still trying it out though and trying to be optimistic about it.

Sounds like a great decision for you. I see 2 camps of folks and their opinions and expectations with this product.

Camp 1) Loves every new Apple product, wants the latest tech, can't wait for an "iphone on the wrist". Generally DOESN'T wear a watch. This group is disappointed, doesn't see the use case for the watch. This sounds like the OP.

Camp 2) Wears watches and likes that their watch can have additional functionality. Sees the watch as an iphone add-on, extending functions of the iphone to the wrist, but not replacing the iphone. This group seems thrilled with the watch.

I fall into camp 2. I've worn a watch daily for over 40 years. Really, by only changing my routine into charging the watch each night (as opposed to winding my watch and setting the time each morning; yes, I own old-school mechanical watches and rotate them every day), I get a plethora of new info on my wrist, and I love it.

To be fair their may be a very small contingent of camp 3) fitness folks. They want the best fitness tracking they can get, and the Apple watch at present if the best fitness band you can buy. I don't see this group as huge in numbers (yet).

At the end of the day, the most important thing is this product is still a *watch*. Your satisfaction will be directly dependent on how much you like watches and whether you like using them. YMMV.

Well said, I fell into camp 2. I use to have a galaxy note 2, and a gear one. I bought it as a novelty, but as time went on, I realized how useful it was and how much I actually used it. Since switching to the six plus, I have missed that functionality. I looked at pebble steel, but it just wasn't for me. I can't wait to get my apple watch.

Well said. It's a lot of money for something that does so little. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple slashes the prices by 30-40% in the next year. I have the 42mm Sport and it seems like something that should cost no more than $249.

If demand dries up quickly after the first rush (and I've got a strong feeling it will) we'll see them for $100-$150 off in the refurb. store by summer.

They'll be brand new, unused watches of course, but boxed up as "refurbs" so the full-price purchasers don't complain and return their watches.

I don't see how else Apple can overcome the price resistance. They can't wait a year for a natural V2 price drop - they need to keep this watch selling so the app developers and accessory manufacturers get on board. If it stutters, that could be the end of it.

I completely agree with this post. I expect Watch demand to tank in the next few months especially as people start to save for the new iPhones.

I do not see the watch sales "tanking" due to the new iPhone coming out later this year? You are forgetting that many do not need to save to get a new phone.

The iPhone won't cause the Watch sales to tank but they will help. The Watch's price (IMO) is going to hurt its sales after the initial rush of excitement is over. I also expect to see many of these June dates pushed forward. I guess time will tell the story.

People would soon realize that the watch will become unwanted. Am I bitter, yes. It's apples fault that they screwed up this launch. My honeymoon is over with this thing. I'm already losing interest as the day goes by... Now focusing my excitement in the new iPhone 6s plus... Yeee baby!!!!!

?..the Apple watch at present if the best fitness band you can buy.
Wow, you really know nothing about fitness devices.
Companies like Garmin have been doing this for years and their devices are miles ahead of the AW for the serious athlete and fitness enthusiast.

I am very impressed with your life and work ethic. We could do with a lot more like you in the UK. I am now retired from my previous job as a support engineer for HP so my life is the polar opposite to yours I am glad to say. I just hope you leave sufficient time for a good social life. All work and no play.... I am waiting patiently at the moment for the AWs to appear in my local Apple stores before I buy. Online ordering is fine for most things but I prefer a store purchase if possible for Apple goodies!

I try to balance work/life as best I can. The commute almost adds 2 hours to the day so I always try for only 8 at the office. I strive for productivity versus long days. I'd rather take a 30 min lunch and leave at 5, etc.

Life is too short to work all the time, but they do compensate me very fairly so I can afford to buy all these toys.
