Shame, that's a guaranteed hard-pass from me then. I've had my fill of stupid 'touch sensitive' headphones that have a spasm when I put my hood up in the rain. Context: as a non-driver I walk almost everywhere, including a daily three mile commute to/from work, and this being NW England, raining is the norm for 8-10 months of the year. Some kind of physical buttons are a complete must.
Same. The slightest touch to adjust the cups or whatever and it starts/stops audio, jacks the volume up/down, etc. Touch controls are insanely stupid for interfaces you are never able to look at while using.

They look like a wireless version of the 500 series. But buying a closed back Sennheiser seems wrong, somehow.

For anyone spending this much on headphones, I would recommend you find a store that sells all in this class to compare them side by side. Sony XM5's just have a richer, fuller sound than AirPod Max and it sounds as though these new Momentums won't be far behind, if not leading. Apple's headphones have a great finish to the design and the tech connecting them is very convenient, but when you're spending hours listening to them it just makes sense to go with something that sounds the best. Being Apple's first entry in this category, I would hope they would further tune them for V2 to compete with others in the same category.

LOL. Just buy these. Frequently on sale for $60. Remarkably good. https://www.boltune.com/products/bt-bh011-deep-bass-headphones?_pos=2&_sid=20bf8ff98&_ss=r

I picked up a set of beyerDynamic DT 990 Pros 250 ohm version. They are really nice wired open back headphones that I use for listening to lossless. They sound great and they're cheap. Amazon has them for less than $130, which is a bit irritating. I bought them for $147. Every time I look, the price is lower than the last time I looked. LOL
I think that wired phones are now becoming cheaper as wireless becomes mainstream. however, for sound work, wired are the best (no latency) and no signal distortion.

But no noise cancelling. The Sennheisers are more for someone who wants decent sound and good noice cancelling, such as travelers. I've gone through a bunch of NC headsets over the years, and currently use the Bose 700's. My 2cd generation Momentums are quite nice as well. I travel a lot and am willing to trade amazing sound for really good noise cancellation as that is what makes a trip more bearable. YMMV.

In the end, it comes down to what you need and want. Amazing sound but no noise cancellation is useless to me, but may be just what you want.
I have noise canceling Airpods Pro and Airpod Max. For optimal sound, NC is recommended to be off. I have also noise canceling Senneheiser BT 4.50 but I prefer M20x BT because they do have passive noise reduction and that's pretty much enough.

A store? What’s this “store “ of which you speak?

I have Audio Technica's highly proclaimed ATH-M20XBT, its studio phones, 60 hours of great battery life, it has amazing sound, and cost about 50% of Sennheiser (mind you, I also have Sennheiser BT 4.50 wireless and Sennheiser Momentum 2 wired). https://www.audio-technica.com/en-au/ath-m20xbt, https://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-ATH-M20xBT-Wireless-Over-Ear-Headphones/dp/B09VJJLFX9, I also have a wired version of M20x-BT, both for studio work, highly recommend. Of course, Sennheiser is good, but I find M20x more intuitive to use.
Are the ATH-M20XBT headphones comfortable to wear for several hours per day?

Yes, I use both wired and wireless versions of M-20x for music and sound work and generally do not notice them using for long time. They are very easy to operate unlike Sennheiser 4.50 and the speech information is unobtrusive too. They are USB-C, so I use same charger for iPad Mini and M-20x BT and Macbook. Also, can be used with 3.5 mm jack if battery is down but I never had their battery on low because it works like for 60 hours and charged to half in 10 minutes or so.

I don't know why Apple sound gears always get dissed. HomePods, AirPods and AirPods Max sound great. Sennheiser sound isn't that much better, if not worse.
nah man come on... I'm far from being an audiophile and even I can tell that Sennheiser is in a different league when it comes to sound.

A long time ago, I got not one but two pairs of Momentum 3 Wireless (one black, one ivory) for lots of $$$ because I loved the unique design and high quality build with leather and steel. The sound quality and noise cancellation were nice, too, but not the main selling point for me.

These look just like any random low quality plastic headphones out there. No points for design from me. I still might consider getting these if the audio quality is amazing and they are comfortable and easy and effortless to use. I'm guessing at least one of those areas will have problems, not so sure about touch sensitive controls...

Only according to reviews (I have not used these): The Sennheisers win on sound quality if you want a true sound, they are neutral with just a touch of oumph, but Apple is not far behind and have a great sound signature, the Sony comes in last here but even though their sound is not neutral it's an engaging sound signature with extra bass. Some people prefer it and it works great for certain music.

On NC the Sennheisers come last. The Sony and Apple are neck and neck. Apple win on transparency mode

On weight the Sonys is a clear winner at 250g. Sennheiser comes in at 290 something. Apple is a fat cat at 390 something.

Price is Sennheiser, Sony................. and Apple.
Battery is Sennheiser,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Sony and Apple.

There is a lot to consider with headphones, especially BT headphones. I am heavily invested in the Apple ecosystem, but right now the Airpod Max is a hard sell: The weight, the battery life, the price. They don't even support high fidelity codec or have a 3,5mm plug.

I wish they would release a Studio version of their over the ear headphones. If they came in at the same price as the Sennheisers I would buy them. Right now I'm very tempted by the Senns.

First of all why would you even wear them outside when it’s raining when it’s clearly specified in the documentation that they should be kept dry at all time and they are clearly not water resistant…

And for your info if you would still go and wear them when it’s raining you can deactivate the touch pad.

Have had the Momentum 3 headset for a good few years now, and I'm really happy that they've seemingly done heaps of work on making them more comfortable (definitely can't wear them all day, and I switch them out for Airpods Pro regularly). Not sure I'm convinced about the new design direction, and stepping so far away from the distinct retro look of the previous model. This looks too much like any number of other headphones.

ok. when will the airpod max version 2 be release. IT'S ABOUT TIME
Without the Bra please ;)

That said Sennheiser really needs to rethink their commercial for this. Like dancing in a laundry mat then the female swings over to randomly talk to someone else like it's a pickup joint? creepy with literary your dirty laundry being cleaned in the open.
