50~100% for integrated graphics, but I don't see anything on the market that will give an iMac that kind of horsepower in a dedicated card.

Here's the current and projected cards. Research the benchmarks, it's a big boost. 2012 is a great year for m-cards.

Low 21": AMD 6750m vs Nvidia 650M
High 21"/Low 27": AMD 6770m vs Nvidia 660M
High 27": AMD 6970m vs Nvidia 680M

10% upgrade in CPU and GPU if you wait for the rumored 2012 model.

$200.00 in rebates and itunes giftcard if you buy the current imac.

I'm going with 200$

Finally! Someone posting an economically rational reason to go with the current 2011 iMac. That is correct, sir. For $200 off, the numbers say anything up to around $1500 worth of current iMac becomes a good buy. I suppose you could stretch to the base 27" model too. For a top end 27", still not worth it.

So you're telling me that an Intel HD 4000 is better than a Nvidia 680m!? Please don't talk about things you don't understand  .

Listen. I've seen the benchmarks. The 680m is 6% faster than the 6970m. I think people are confused and are looking at the gtx 680m SLI which apple is not going to put in their iMacs anymore than they are going to put a 6970M crossfire in it.

"on average" the 680m out performs the 6970m
-tom's hardware

They aren't going to refresh the iMac with a sideways spec bump that only raises the cost of the machine.

When compared to mobile Nvidia GPUs, the HD 7970M should perform marginally faster than the GeForce GTX 675M and roughly on par with the upcoming GTX 680M. In fact, rumors claim 3DMark 11 scores of P4500 and P4700 from the 7970M and GTX 680M, respectively.

....There is a real need to explain in which cases you’ll need/want a GTX 675M and not a GT 650M and I’ll do that in a different article, but basically, the GTX 670M / Radeon 6970M (and more then that – GTX 675M/Radeon 6990M) and up are aimed to get let you play games on very high settings, including resolution, filters and so on. You’ll notice the Radeon HD 7970M which costs considerably less than the GTX 680M and offers the same performance more or less (read: you’ll not notice the difference).

The 2011 model was literally the top of the line mobile GPU, it's small wonder it's still one of the best, if not the absolute best for the price.

Reread your quote. It's comparing the 680M to the 7970m. You need to compare 680M to 580M or 7970m to 6970m to see the generational differences.

670M to 680M is also quite a large difference.. 670M is just a rebadged 580M.

I bought another 27" iMac very recently.

I have another one I bought many months ago.

I see no point in waiting, there is nothing earth shattering on the horizon for the next one as far as I am concerned.

This really is true, the current one is a very quick machine that will suit the average user very well.

That being said, I know the second I buy one the new model will come out :)

Guys thank you all for some very good points. I have decided to buy an iMac. And I am going to see what if anything comes in October. If there is a decent/major upgrade then I will buy the new model. I am going to look at the GPU benchmarks and when the new release hits, then I will decide which iMac to purchase(current or new model), cause if there isn't a big difference then the $200 + might be better spent creating a home network and backup with airport express/extreme and external HD etc

Again let me thank you all for your views. I am starting to get a more definite vision of what it is I want to achieve.

My son during our conversations about what to buy has said that he wants to start capturing Xbox gameplay and posting on You Tube . Is there anything specific I should be on the look out for spec wise. :apple::apple:
