Schiller is the Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing at Apple... I'm sure he knows how people refer to the next generation iPhone... and that's iPhone 5.

When my family / friends ask me about the next iPhone, they ALWAYS refer to it as the iPhone 5.... do I agree with naming it this? Not really, I don't really care... I'm buying the thing anyways!

Someone on this forum pointed out earlier to me that Apple dropped the number from the iPad this year because the Mini was coming this fall and there was little need for an iPad 3, iPad Mini, and the following year an iPad 4 and iPad Mini 2, etc.

The iPhone has no Mini equivalent and hence Apple will simply continue the numbers scheme. However, I'm curious why they wouldn't opt for iPhone LTE a la iPhone 3G. Perhaps this is because LTE is not as readily available in the fall of 2012 as 3G coverage was in the summer of 2008.

I say 5 trillion $$ market cap is the meaning. Or 5 billion from Samsung after they get the galaxy 3 banned. Or the iPhone 5 since this is an announcement about the next iPhone call the iPhone 5.

Wow

From another incredibly similar thread.

The New iPhone 32gig black
The New iPhone 32gig white
The New iPhone 64gig black
The New iPhone 64gig white
iOS 6
There you go the 5 new things!

I cannot see them calling it the "iPhone 5". Absoultely ridiculous, as the 5th gen iphone was the 4S. The iphone 4 made sense as that was the 4th generation iphone.

Apple is very simple, so they should stick to "New iPhone".

iPhone 3G
iPhone 3GS
iPhone 4
iPhone 4S

If they wanted to make sense, then the 3G would have been called the 2, the 3Gs called the 3, and the 4S called the 5.

So, no. The next one is going to be the 5. It's OK, it doesn't need to make sense in your world.

I think these 6ers must be borderline retarded. For actually caring about the name and their complete lack of logic.

So, the invites have just been released.

The 12 which represents what day it'll be on clearly resembles a 5 in its' shadow.

Now this could mean one of two things.

Either the iPhone 5, or the possibility that they will release 5 new products.

So?

New iPhone
New iPod Touch
New iPad Mini?
New iPod Nano?
New iPod Shuffle?

What're your thoughts? & What do you think could be the possible 5 products?

Well. No, in a word. I think 4 products in the list will be shown. The next iPhone and all new iPod models. I think the iPad mini will be shown off in a separate event. Can't wait now!!

----------

I will be glued to my computer screen a week from tomorrow watching the live updates for the Keynote.

Won't we all!!

The invite clearly says:

"It's almost here." NOT "They're almost here."

Not 5 products.

You just answered your own quandry in the same sentence.

Since the 4S was released, I've been of the opinion that this next iPhone should be iPhone 6. It is the sixth iPhone, after all.

But this graphic is clearly meant to convey that iPhone 5 is almost here. It says "It's almost here" - not "They're almost here".

Could you be anymore arrogant and so not right???

Dude... you guys... seriously... let it go.

iPhone 5

How much clearer co you need it spelled out for you?

iPhone 4S was not the iPhone 5. It was the iPhone 4, with some slight updates. Next week's iPhone will not be the iPhone 6, because they did not have a 5

THAT. IS. IT.

It's very simple.

I can't believe so many of you are hung up on a freaking name. Jeez.

Well, let's see. Your line of reasoning is that the name of the phone is related to its generation.

Out of the 5 generations, only ONE specifically ascribes to this aspect (iPhone 4), while the first iPhone doesn't even have a number.

Can you be any more senseless?

I agree.

Wasting far too many brain cells regarding this non issue. :p

Show the September 12th invites shadow to the average, run of the mill iPhone 4 user (not a member of this forum who knows how many iPhone generations there are) and tell them it's for an iPhone event. What kind of hint do you think they'll take away from the "5" shadow? Obviously the iPhone 5 and not something obtuse like 5 new products.

Just playing along for the fun of it, but.... perhaps the "It's" stands for "the event that will launch our new product(s)." ;)

Also the iPhone has been out for 5 years now so might there be some significance in that?
