September 3, 2008 - Nationwide Data Outage?

Thought I'd start a new thread to cover the entire country. So far data outages as far west as Chicago, as far south as Alexandria VA, and as far North as Boston. I'll update this post as we get more info.

Neither EDGE nor 3G about 20 miles north of Boston, MA.
It shows that I have 5 bars of coverage, but it won't let me connect.

3G and EDGE are both dead in Upper and Midtown Manhattan by my account. Amazing.

Edit: Confirmed this with a coworker's 1st-gen phone as well.

Thought it was just my iphone as i just updated to 2.0.2 last night. Started cussing the update all morning. Good to know it's AT&Ts fault as I'd hate to wait in line for a new iphone.

Seems like it's iPhone-related because I can get a data connection on my 3G ATT laptop card.

Just got off the phone with AT&T now, and talked with a tech support person. He filed a filed "trouble ticket" so the network engineers would know and said it is a noted outage and is specifically with the iPhone.

Just called AT&T to ask for a credit and they wanted me to go through "troubleshooting" even though everyone's phones are simultaneously acting up.

I'll call back later--I imagine within the next few hours they're gonna be swamped with irate customers and will have a better response system in place.

The last time that my mail accounts were fetched was 3:10am EDT, Sep. 3th.

In York, PA there is no EDGE or 3G. Despite what maps say, 3G is new to this area.
