System Preferences/Desktop & Screen Saver/Translucent Menu Bar.

Uncheck that and you're good to go.

no no, I know how to change the transparency, its the shadow cast beneath the menu bar (with transparency on AND off) that I despise 🙁 It's SO annoying with light or white desktops.
