Hey all. nice desktop pics. But I was wondering how some of you eliminate all icons from your desktop.. including your hard drive icons. I only use the dock but still have the stupid icons for my 2 hard drives on the desktop. How can I get rid of these? Thanks.

Actually, I uploaded the original desktop (w/o dock, etc.) to your site before you posted what I quoted. I just didn't edit my post. :p

looks like there is something wrong with your image. photoshop says it is not a valid .jpg file. you can try again, but make sure you upload a .jpg.

What about exporting the image to a compressed PICT file, or even a compressed JPEG? I uploaded my desktop file; it was 72Kb and had the .jpg at the very end of the filename.

8th, do you have the .jpg extention at the very end of your file name?

Well here's mine. It's pretty plain, just a photo I took when I visiting the Big Apple in Feb and that nice little slogan, always helps when all the good ideas leave you!

This is a psuedo mac theme on xp. The windows UI is so hideous looking that I had to give it a much needed make over. I think my desktop looks a whole lot better than stock xp. As for iTunes..that is just a skin running over qcd player. Take a look at my old desktop. Hideous aint it?

If you like that pic check out my website there's a big gallery, I've loads from my travels this year. I've been to New York, Thailand and Singapore.

Yup, but not anymore, and you can't even change it with TinkerTool either. :(

All you have to do is to 3-finger your screen capture then double click the file it creates. This should open preview. Then go to the file menu and choose export. Then select whatever format you choose i.e. jpeg, etc..

P.S.

For those of you that don't know what I mean by 3-Finger.

Command-shift-3 get's you full screen capture. Command-shift 4 gets you a lasso. When you are using the lasso you can press space bar and get window only capture. When using the Command-shift 4 command you can press escape to abort.

Here's mine with one of my favorite backgrounds. My dock pops up on the left and is pinned to the top. My desktop pic switches every 15minutes. I tried it faster then that and I found it just too distracting. I've also tried having my screensaver as the desktop background but it drops my FPS in UnrealTournament from 70 to 55 unless I kill the process everytime. It just became too much of a hastle. I think it would be cool if they enabled the screensaver/background feature as long as they had it kill or pause it while other programs ran fullscreen.

im surprised im the only one who sint using a static image. guess im the only bozo who likes wasting cpu cycles running a movie or screensaver as a decktop background.

i think it would be really nice to have a nice 3d rendered (bryce-like) landscape as the background with just the clouds gently floating by and the waves gently lapping at the shore. just a very subtle animation that would loop well. that would be my desktop in an instant if someone could make the 3d movie.

as for now im just using screensavers mostly, with an occasional fraggle rock episode as a desktop for good measure.

Well, I do sometimes... but like you said, it just takes up too much cpu cycles. Blah!

Where are you getting the fraggle rock episodes?
