Are you comparing Series 2 to Series 0 or something else? A S2 vs S1 direct comparison (with GPS off) should show longer battery life in the S2 based on the dramatically larger battery.

Also, as noted above, some of the battery draining features on S2, like brighter screen and GPS usage, can be dialed down for those who prefer to prioritize battery life and always take their phone with them, even when running.

I think the battery life has improved for
most with OS 3.1. Although, the S2 processor definitely consumes the battery life under loads. Before 3.1, the reports from other forum members were horrid.

Thank you so much for all of your help! Series 1, space grey 42mm with black silicone band. Sorted :D:D:D

Jealous... my wife gets me socks.

One year he had about 30 pairs of socks individually wrapped up and hidden throughout his presents. In every pocket of the coat I'd bought him, in with aftershave gift set etc..... we've come a long way since then. His birthday is 3 weeks later so it's a combined from me and the kids for both!

The difference between the S1 and S2 is more than just water resistance and GPS.

The S2 has a signifcantly brighter screen, which should help with viewing the screen on sunny days. I think there are about 5 sunny days in England. ;)

Also, the S2 has a ceramic back whereas the S1 has a plastic back. Not sure if that's a big deal, but I would suspect the ceramic is much less susceptable to scratching (which could affect the HR sensor).

5 sunny days? Wow! Which part of England did you visit? I must move there!! Hahahahahaha ;)

I have been into my local Apple shop since my OP and compared both models. After chatting with 3 different Apple staff I decided to go with the 1.

I am quietly confident that this will be ok for him indoors...... If it isn't, I'll just have it for myself :p
