Did you read the screen capture just few messages above? Series 1 back is composite, series 2 aluminum is ceramic. Check apple's website out yourself:

Yep, my theory is the new waterproofing, whatever seal or adhesive used on the back to improve the waterproofing might have required the ceramic back.

The back of my Apple watch was all scratched up in the center, maybe from taking it on and off the charger every night. Not sure if it has any effect on heart rate monitoring but I look forward to it being ceramic now, my guess is this might be the reason why they went ceramic on the back, that and charging might be better.

0.9mm? You say you won't be able to distinguish 4 grams but 0.9mm?.. That's disappointing?! How thin are your wrists?!

A single millimeter can often be quite noticeable in watch thickness, depending
on the watch. My Submariner is only 1.75 millimeters thicker than my Aqua Terra, but it's very noticeable. Who knows about the Apple Watch, though.
