Anyone have a series 3 and plan to upgrade? Can't decide what to do. Also what's with apples trade in program, if i decide to do it do they just mail me a check? Can I decide later? Or do I have to decide right now.

I have a 42" S3 SS, which I'm planning on selling (hopefully can get $400-500 for it - it's pristine) and will get a 44" SS next Friday! The S4's screen is the main reason, plus the Bluetooth 5.0 upgrade (4x range, indoors, plus 2x transfer speed) and the louder speaker, which will let me use it as a phone more than I already do.

I sold my Series 3 in order to get Series 4. I'm mostly upgrading because of the bigger screen. About the trade-in programme, as far as I am concerned, they give you credit towards a new product you want to buy from Apple. I would recommend you trying selling it to someone, because most probably you'll be able to get more for it that what Apple will give you.

Yes, I am going to the 4 from a 3 in a few hours.

Bigger screen, ECG, Fall detection/aid and louder speakers are the four reason for me.

Upgraded this morning to the Series 4. Really looking forward to the larger display, additional health sensors, Haptic Digital Crown, ect. The Series 4 is by far a much bigger upgrade over the Series 3 in almost every way. The Series 3 was more of an ‘S’ model over the Series 2.

In the same situation. My first watch was the series 3. It's very convinient but often gets out of range at home, and might lag once in a while. The series 4 is very very tempting. My ass hurts just sitting so hard on the fence here...

i think it's crazy to upgrade from the S3 to the S4. bigger screen is nice, but do you really need it? it's not like you are consuming content on it all the time.

but somehow i couldn't resist and ordered one anyway.. oh well... ;)

Its not the screen thats the big deal, its the upcoming ECG sensing feature, im upgrading from a Stainless steel 42mm series 3 to a Stainless Steel 44mm Series 4, looking forward to it very much.

Don’t get your hopes up too high. AW resale values are pretty awful in my experience. (UK)

How do you call the introduction of LTE an S model?!

I ended up going with the upgrade being currently on the S3. Mainly because the trade-in deal that Apple offers for the Apple Giveaway Trade-in program knocked the price down by almost half. That coupled with a $100 gift certificate, I was trying to figure out what to use it for, the total cost for a 44mm Sport Loop Space Gray GPS+Cellular comes out to about $250, after everything. With the depreciation of any trade in, I thought it might be the best time to do it. Do I need it? No. But I haven't seen the screen in person, so I'm assuming based on the reviews, that it's a big selling point to the watch. Had I not had all these discounts available, I would have not moved on it, but it seems like $250 is a pretty good price to upgrade.
As far as the Apple Giveway (Trade-In program) they refund the original payment method with the trade-in value, so I'm getting about $225. Seems like a good deal....

Apple gave me $175 for my S3 42MM GPS only model. Not bad at all. Plus you get to keep the band and charger.

That’s a good deal but for people that own a stainless steel model like myself (Series 3 .42mm SS) all they offered was 250 which is simply not good enough. I can sell it for about 300 elsewhere almost guaranteed which is what I’m going to do as I preordered my 44mm SS Series 4 last night and need to sell the Series 3

Because the Series 2 and Series 3 at are nearly identical in software/Hardware Features aside from LTE and the upgraded processor. It was and is an ‘S’ model. The Series 4 is a significant leap forward in almost every way with the form factor changes and health advancements.

I upgraded from S3 LTE to S4 LTE.
It's a generational leap - size, screen (a big improvement in size), thinness, the speaker, better radio/antenna, 2X faster processor, ECG, new optical HR sensor, BT5, much more accurate gyro (which is used for a ton of stuff in that device, like activity tracking), and more. It's a generational leap. I am surprised Apple didn't harp on it more. The Xs was ho-hum...

Are there any difference in S4 between the GPS and GPS+LTE besides...the LTE? S3 had clear differences with GPS having 8 GB/Composite back vs 16GB/Ceramic back for the GPS+LTE model. Both S4 models have 16 GB/Ceramic back.

I am. S3 aluminum w/LTE to S4 aluminum w/LTE. My S3 is in great condition and since Apple wants to give me $225 for that, I couldn’t resist. Pretty amazed they’re giving that much for my S3.

It’s pretty crappy that they are only giving $25 more for stainless steel series 3s. Ridiculous. You’re talking about a huge difference in price.

I’m tempted by the series 4, but I don’t really appreciate the price increases. I’d far rather have an Apple Watch upgrade program than my IUP. If Apple would give me a fair trade in value for my Series 3 SS, I’d be mostly all in.

It’s the sad truth but as soon as a new Apple watch comes out it becomes very clear that all that extra money that we spent to have a more luxurious experience (Stainless Steel Model) will not matter much because usually the base entry model of the newest Apple watch is better in every regard than the top end stainless steel model from last year offering new sensors, faster processors etc with the exception of Sapphire glass but most people looking for an Apple Watch on the second hand market could care less/know anything about sapphire glass and the vast difference it offers compared to the standard glass on the sport model and quite frankly it forces anyone trying to sell their SS Series 3 to sell for a fraction of the cost that it originally cost. It is what it is at the end of the day.

Nope. S3 is fine. S4 adds nothing worthwhile for me. Apple has a lot more work to do.

Was that from Apple store trade in? Did you just have to walk in and ask to trade in? I have a S3 cellular with regular sport band. I’d be glad if they can take it off of my hand for $200-$250 without the hassle of selling it myself.
