As much as the Apple Watch 4 looks great and has new features and design (I particularly like the heart monitoring and the modern design, larger screen etc.) I can't bring myself to upgrade as I use my 3 so little. I have to try and keep it with some charge and switch it off to preserve the battery because for a while I wasn't even charging it and I know prolonged flat battery isn't a good thing.

I'm pleased, though, for those excited by the new watch.

The reason why stainless steel value doesn’t hold is because the perception of Apple Watch has changed from jewelry made from luxury materials to merely a fitness gadget. That’s with the ‘Edition’ model is no more and why certain luxury bands have been discontinued.

Apple won't ever be a "real" fitness gadget, it can't come even close to the Garmin's, Suunto's, and Polars out there, but I don't think that's what they're trying to do. AW fills in the space between those who are dedicated, semi-pro athletes, who actually have training plans, and are worried about their VO2Max, and the normal, everyday person who simply wants to improve their health, stay (or get) fit, and still have a life. In that void, AW does amazingly well.

I always thought the luxury components of the Apple Watch were a bit pointless as the watches basic functionality will be left behind with a new model with just aluminium used.

I agree with you. The marketing strategy of turning the watch into the likes of Fitbit has cheapened the Apple Watch.

I went from the Series 0 to the Series 3 - it was a nice upgrade.

I had no intention of upgrading, but I am. The larger screen and new shape design looks fantastic, but the heat feature pushed me over the edge. I have very mild heart issues on occasion. These new health features sold me.

The ceramic Edition was discontinued for one thing and one thing only, no one wanted to pay $1100 for smart watch. There is a very slim market that wants to Pay a steep premium for a tech watch that will see maybe three years of support with limited battery life. That’s why the aluminum is popular, because you have those you want to experience the Apple Watch, but not at an exorbitant price point.

Was that from Apple store trade in? Did you just have to walk in and ask to trade in? I have a S3 cellular with regular sport band. I’d be glad if they can take it off of my hand for $200-$250 without the hassle of selling it myself.

Yes, from Apple - online or in store. Not worth the hassle of eBay for an extra $50 maybe to me

Can you make the order and confirm the trade in online and then take the old device into an Apple store instead of shipping it with the kit?

I pulled the trigger today and can’t wait to get it on Friday (in store pickup) :D:p I felt a little guilty but the trade in made it a lot easier  and it is a really nice upgrade

What model was available to order today for pickup Friday? All that I have looked at are for deliver Oct 15 or later

Upgraded this morning to the Series 4. Really looking forward to the larger display, additional health sensors, Haptic Digital Crown, ect. The Series 4 is by far a much bigger upgrade over the Series 3 in almost every way. The Series 3 was more of an ‘S’ model over the Series 2.
LTE was the biggest deal with the Series 3. That said, I’m debating dropping the cellular plan. After taxes and fees $10 turns into $20 for me.

Same here from 0>3Lte>4Lte
I train 5 times a week, i use this thing everyday, i hate having my phone at the gym, and the lte model really helps staying connected. I also use it for listening to music while training, receiving calls and texts imsg, counts my active burn calories and i pair it with my polar Bluetooth heart rate monitor so i can get precise readings. For me its the ultimate tool for my training, and when im not training i still use it for notification or talk on the phone via the airpods etc. Can’t wait to use the series 4 with all the new improvements.

i think it's crazy to upgrade from the S3 to the S4. bigger screen is nice, but do you really need it? it's not like you are consuming content on it all the time.

but somehow i couldn't resist and ordered one anyway.. oh well... ;)

Mostly this, except I AM excited about the new heart health features and the fall detection. We live in the country and I’m home alone a good bit doing a lot of physical stuff out on our property, so I like the idea of having that.

I also like that it’s gonna be a little thinner than the S3.

I just went for silver aluminum with cellular, mainly because the stainless I had before was a little heavier than I liked.

I also like that it’s gonna be a little thinner than the S3..

The Series 3 thickness is 11.4 MM, the Series 4 is 10.7, that will hardly be neglible in terms of being thinner considering the Series 4 ‘40’ MM weight is actually heavier at 30.1 G, where as the Series 3 ‘38’ MM actually weighed less at 28.7 for the cellular model.
