Wonder how happy all of the owners of the now obsolete AW4 now...

I'm good with my SS gold. I don't really care about the always on display. I'll pick that up in a later model in a few years. It doesn't appear the hardware was upgraded so it's really not a thing.

I'm just as happy now as I was a couple hours ago, yesterday, etc.

My AW4 still works just as well today as it has all year.

Sure I'm considering an upgrade, but that's to gain new features not available previously.

I still love my AW4. I was late to the game on this one, I didn't get mine until April. I figure that unlike my phone, which I upgrade every year, I'm going to upgrade my watch every couple of years. I don't think that they update that much each year.

its not “obsolete”, what a weird comment. its a year old, still supported, the second best tech specs out there for the watch. im thinking about picking one up used.

unless youre trying to make people think theyre worthless so you can pick one up cheap then yeah who needs that ole thing?! ill do you a huge favor and give you $150 for it. :D

Where would I find a AW4 brand new?

I'd like to get the cheaper model but not the Series 3. I should wait until the Series 5 go on sale and check Amazon?

I'm perfectly fine with my S4, fantastic watch. If you go in to buying Apple products thinking they're going to be the latest and greatest for a long period of time you're sorely mistaken.

That's what it looks like, S4 is not even mentioned on Apples site now. At the bottom of AW page, you can "compare the new Series 5 to Series 3"

Price wise, its about the same when S4 was out...which really kind of stinks for anyone who hoped for a Series 5 to be introduced - and planned to get the Series 4 reduced drop in price.

The Always On is cool, I say its not a game changed. I love my Series 4, if you can find it online...cheaper Go for it.

I just want to clarify what you’re saying, it’s not ‘obsolete’ in the sense of the support it will receive, especially being with the 64-bit architecture that offers over the other Apple Watch models, is it obsolete in terms of Apple won’t produce that specific model anymore? Yes. It’s the OS support that matters, _not_ the physical manufacturing process of the S4 being discontinued.

Perhaps "Obsolete" was not the correct word, the series 4 now, (of which I own) will now be looked on as the "Red headed stepchild" of the AW line. I can see why they actually discontinued it, as the AW5 is actually only a Series 4 with new clothes, there is no upgrades to speak of, the compass I've had on my S4 for almost a year, the always on display will take a battery hit, no matter what they say, and the other "upgrades" are contained within WatchOS 6, which will come to the Series 4. To keep the series 4, which they would obviously have to sell at a discounted price would definitely cause Series 5 to take a sales hit when people actually start comparing specs. I can understand the marketing, but why not introduce a "real" feature upgrade, and make the Series 5 truly a "new" series?
[doublepost=1568150461][/doublepost]I just had a thought, If I decide to sell my Series 4, I can always call it a slightly downgraded Series 5, at half the price! LOL

Apple probably axed the 4 because the 4 and 5 were too similar and Apple wanted people to buy the 5 instead of the cheaper 4 (if they sold it together).

So they decided to axe the 4 and keep the 3 to make the 5 look better.

Not surprising but still a bit sneaky.

Bought mine last year knowing there’d be a new one this year. Doesn’t affect me at all.

Wearables is the fastest growing segment for Apple, It pretty much has been for the last three years, so we can almost expect a new Apple Watch every year from this point forward. But I don’t think that means that consumers need to upgrade on an annual basis, not when generally smart watches are not significantly upgraded on a year-to-year basis, when it’s probably about every 2/3 years we see form factor changes/ and health improvements. I personally wouldn’t hesitate to purchase a Series 5 at all, and I can safely assume a Series 6 will be here in 2020.

I gave up long ago on having to have the latest. It's still tempting but would be even more disappointing to have less $ and nothing exciting to gain. The jump from 3 to 4 was huge - I saw the display and just had to do it.
