Perhaps "Obsolete" was not the correct word, the series 4 now, (of which I own) will now be looked on as the "Red headed stepchild" of the AW line. I can see why they actually discontinued it, as the AW5 is actually only a Series 4 with new clothes, there is no upgrades to speak of, the compass I've had on my S4 for almost a year, the always on display will take a battery hit, no matter what they say, and the other "upgrades" are contained within WatchOS 6, which will come to the Series 4. To keep the series 4, which they would obviously have to sell at a discounted price would definitely cause Series 5 to take a sales hit when people actually start comparing specs. I can understand the marketing, but why not introduce a "real" feature upgrade, and make the Series 5 truly a "new" series?
[doublepost=1568150461][/doublepost]I just had a thought, If I decide to sell my Series 4, I can always call it a slightly downgraded Series 5, at half the price! LOL
I think there was just very little they could introduce now as the watch is becoming a mature product like the iPhone. Most people I know keep their Apple Watch an average of 3-4 years and it’s not necessarily a gadget that people upgrade annually. Nobody is going to be able to tell what series AW you own just by looking at it so I think that is a welcome bonus.
