DesFit did extensive testing on this issue. Looks like using the USB-C charger for the S7 is worth it at the moment.
Wow, this YouTuber nails it right on the head -- the S7 charges noticeably slower on "regular" pucks (which unfortunately at the moment also includes integrated charging stands like my beloved Belkin 3-in-1 stand). Seems like it's USB-C or bust with these S7s now

That said, I've reached out through direct channels to contacts at Belkin to let them know about this and if anything can be done. Will update if I hear anything back.

As stated before, the 'power stack' for devices these days is so complicated, it's hard to tell what exactly is going on.

Heard back today from Belkin's hardware team. They said that through their experience testing their 3-in-1 stand, the Series 7 takes slightly longer than the Series 6 to charge, but it's only by an average of 10 minutes more per charging session.

They note that the Series 7 also has a larger battery, which accounts for the longer charging time. The new USB-C fast charger is faster by quite a bit, almost an hour (in their experience), compared to the puck on the 3-in-1 stand. They have nothing else to report :/

Thanks for the feedback! it’s weird because the charging on my belkin 3-in-1 is clearly more than 10 min compared to my S5, but let’s see if it’s just a software issue

You may all want to update to the latest watchOS update, seems like Apple has addressed the issue (let's hope so)

I'll need to give it some time and run some experiments, but my initial impression is that it didn't appear to have fixed my slow charging on the new fast-charging puck; I installed the update and rebooted the Watch, but it barely charged yesterday. But I haven't noticed the issue recurring on the old puck or the Belkin 3-in-1 Boost.

Does anyone know what this is, exactly? Given that Apple is pushing software updates to fix it, is it safe to assume it's not a hardware issue?

Yeah it isn’t better either on my Belkin 3-in-1 :(
