I disagree. Dropping out of high school is a great idea. When you get old, you can be the warning to your children and grandchildren about the need to stay in school.

Why in theory the GED is worth the same has the HS diploma the reality is it is not. GED is worth a lot less than the HS diploma and more something that a quitter has to take to get by.

Finish the school. Hell graduated HS early. It is possible to cut off up to a year.
Oh and BTW college you will learn that you will not use most of it in the work force. In the year I had a job I want to say I used very little if anything i learn in school. Most of it I learned on the job.

I don't know why people are advising against this. If you are advanced you should move on.

But you need to make damn sure that you can pass the courses at a CC. Your CC grades will be looked at by Universities not your H.S grades. So if you F up at the CC level that 3.4 GPA you had in H.S will not help you get in anywhere.

Speak to a counselor at your local CC and sit in on some classes to see if you can handle it. If you can go for it.

You'll likely never find a job so if being unemployed is your thing then carry on.

I will repeat again. DO NOT DROP OUT!

If you are bored, talk to your school counsellor and see if you can go to an advanced class. Even if you drop out and go to community college, you still have to take the classes you missed. Community college is not that much different from high school.

Finishing school shows employers you stick to something and not giving up no matter what the reason is.

See that's the thing, I have been taking advanced classes. Last year, I took AP US History, AP English Lang. & Comp., AP Biology, and AP Psychology, and Honors Pre-Calc (as a sophomore). In addition to that, I am the captain of my school's quiz bowl team. In addition to that, I play the cello in my school's orchestra, and I put a considerable amount of time into practicing almost everyday (2 hours per day minimum).

So it's not like I'm taking the easiest classes, and doing no extracurriculars. I'm just tired of school. I do well in school, all of my teachers like me, but I just feel like I want to move on. Hell, I'm even taking two classes online right now so I won't have to take a math class next year (I despise math). I just feel like it's time for me to move on to something bigger, and I can't stand the idea of having to deal with two more years of high school.

I've looked into dual enrollment, which my school does offer, but it's too late for me to do any dual enrollment next year.

See, if you came across my desk and I was working human resources, I'd flag you as a problem and terminate you at first opportunity.

Dropping out of High School with a high GPA, means you get bored too easy.

If you were working in a key department you'd be the part of the 1% of employees causing 85% of the grief.

Those online job applications have a similar question, did you drop out of HS, and why.

If you answer wrong, likely you won't get an interview.

Im bored of high school too but I never thought about dropping out. Ill be a senior this year and really I havent thought about high school anymore. I just think of it as something I have to do for the next year and then I can go to college and do something Im interested in. Taking tours of colleges really gets you excited and makes you think less and less about high school. I went and visited Hofstra this past week and loved it. Thats where I want to spend my college life and Im just thinking about my last year of high school as a formality to reach my goal. I get to spend time with friends that I have had since I was 3 and probably wont see for a very long time after this next year. Anyway dont drop and start visiting colleges to get your mind off of high school, in the end it really does help.

I say drop out. Always need bright students who can not **** up my order at the fast-food window.

Seriously, get a clue. You'e bored with high school? Welcome to the club where 99% of people have been. Hang in there till college where you can challenge yourself or save people the time and money and commit suicide. The opportunities for growth are about equal as dropping out these days.

I'd stay in school. Maybe there are some "alternative" or charter schools in your area that you could attend. I don't think dropping out and going for a GED is a wise option. It shouldn't, but it could reflect badly on job or college applications.

I myself was really bored with regular public high school. To the point that unlike you I was not in any AP classes, and had no where near a 3.4 GPA as I never really went to classes. The style of teaching from the public schools was just not conducive to the way I learn. I finally found a good fit in an art based charter school. There I not only excelled at my art, but also English, history, mathematics, and science.

Before you make the decision to drop out I would look at other schools you could attend. I have a feeling dropping out and getting your GED would be something you could regret later down the road.

Definitely stay in school. This is from somebody who was close to not graduating High School and then almost failed first semester of college. So I learned the hard way.

You'll likely never find a job so if being unemployed is your thing then carry on.

I've been working since the week I dropped out, most of the time doing stuff I love. The longest I've been unemployed was about six months, and that was because I just decided to take half a year off and had the cash on hand to do it.

It takes a very unique person to make something out of their life after dropping out. Most people who know me are quite shocked when they learn that I dropped out and had horrible grades. My biggest problem in school was that the teachers only knew how to teach from books and I am a hands on learner. That said...

To the OP: I would never get behind someones decision to drop out if they weren't already 100 percent sure about it, and it sounds like you aren't. If you have any doubt in your mind then stay in school. Talk to your local CC about finishing you high school at the CC. I know plenty of people who spent their last year or two at the local CC and those credits went to both high school and college. Good luck!

For reasons different than yours my brother dropped out of secondary school (UK equiv of high school). He can't find a job now. Been on benefits since he left his apprenticeship, which was a joke of a job. Below minimum wage, long long hours, bad environment. It crushes people who even have an ounce of aspiration.

Stick it out, man.

Only reasons I would drop out of school would be; If I was a professional athlete (no time for school) or if my parents had a nice company and they needed me in it (i.e. already have a "good" job so no need for school)

With your targets, you cannot drop out of school. You can't get into law school if you haven't completed high school. There is chance that you can't get into college/uni! I remember my lower and higher secondary were pain in my ass because most stuff was useless but it was also the best time of my life. So much things happened in school, or after it. If you just sit home and browse MR and play games, you will miss all that. All plans were done at school; where to go on weekend, where is good parties, etc. You would miss all that as well.

Think it this way. You sit in high school for couple of years but you do your work for ~40 years. If you want a good job, spend these few years well and do your best. That 40 years will be a long time if your job is to drive a forklift in a warehouse with 5$/hour salary.

Don't misuse your potential! You seem to have capacity and it's not because you don't get the stuff. Arrogance will never cause anything good. I know several people who are already pissed at themselves because they screwed their chances and now have a ****** work and no education. They are only on their early 20s so I can't even imagine what will it be when they are older... They didn't drop out but were just clowns at school. Never did any work, were always late, disturbed the teaching and teacher etc. They now wish that they wouldn't have acted like clowns. You think you are a tough guy when you do it but later on, you are nothing more but a zero.

Even though you are still a youngster, you are doing a lot big decisions about your future. You don't want to regret the decisions you make now, most of them cannot be changed

School is about building the right mentality. Drop out now and you will never learn what it is like to complete a task and be satisfied, especially the more difficult tasks. Avoiding the not-so-fun stuff gets you nowhere, because... the world is not so much fun, safe and easy as it is in highschool. Running away for challenges makes you a whimp!

With your targets, you cannot drop out of school. You can't get into law school if you haven't completed high school.

Again, you need to know the facts and not be scared into doing the wrong thing. This is not true. From the Miami U website:

Q. Can I get into Law School with only a GED?

Their answer:

"A. Law schools in the US all require a 4-year B.A. degree or equivalent as a pre-requisite to admission. So I'm afraid the road is a little longer than you imagined: first 4 years of college then 3 years of law school.

If you do well in college, having a GED may help you more than hurt you: since law school is such a long tough slog, there's nothing better than a sign of true grit and determination."

They do go on and say SOME schools might think the opposite and want to see a real H.S. degree but it is not a must have.
