First, that earlier post that maybe an air3 will come out in april...forget it.

As for the question about the air2 and ios9, it's fine.

I'm impressed with the iPad Pro, but what they did with the other iPads was a complete mess up. No changes to the Air lineup whatsoever, and a catch-up Mini 4 which isn't even on par with the Air 2.
I have a feeling the Air 3 will get Apple Pencil support. So either Apple wanted to keep it as s feature of the iPad Pro this year or they had resource/supply constraints that only allowed them to bring it to the Pro model right now. So I'm actually glad they didn't update the Air because I think that signals the next update will be a bigger improvement.

Lol your post is so funny to me because I feel the exact opposite. I recently purchased the iPad Air 2 on sale $100 off and it's plenty fast but I was still worried it would become an afterthought if an air 3 was released. Now I'm free! I don't have the pain and suffering involved in passing my iPad down to next in line and purchasing another! Hallelujah praise Jesus!

Very well. I've been using iOS 9 since PB1.

This is good news, thanks for sharing. (I generally stay away from betas, so I'm usually in for a surprise when the release version hits -- glad to hear that it'll likely be a positive one.)

If the leaked Geekbench scores for the A9 in the 6s and 6s Plus are true then I called it weeks ago, as many others did.

The A8X was a monster of a chip, the A9 in the new iPhones have only just caught up with it. I think people need to realise that we now get new devices at such a frenetic pace that developers aren't getting the chance to fully utilise the older models first.

This results in the user base spread over various models and developers need to hit the sweet spot in terms of performance and support to maximise the revenue from that user base.

There's nothing the Air 1 can't run well right now and the Air 2 hasn't even been anywhere near pushed to its limit by developers.

The iPad Air 2 remains an absolute beast of a tablet, it's Apple's premium consumer tablet, there was no need for an Air 3 with the Pro being launched.

It would have been incredible to see the A9X and 4GB of RAM in an iPad Air 3, don't get me wrong, but Apple decided to use those specs on a Pro model. All it means is that IF we do get an iPad Air 3 next year it will be one hell of an upgrade with a much faster chip, more RAM, and 3D Touch.

As things stand the iPad Pro is so over powered that I don't see it being pushed by developers for years. The thing will last for a long, long time which in itself may cause issues as once people have the Pro they might hold onto it even longer than they did older 9.7" iPad models.

At the end of the day the Pro isn't for guys like us on here who, in the main, use our iPads for web browsing, social media, gaming, and the odd Word or Excel document. At the keynote Apple clearly aimed the Pro at power users from professional sectors like medicine, magazine publishing, etc. However, there will be some who will buy the Pro to go on Twitter and play Angry Birds!

In summary, there was no need for an iPad Air 2 this year and that's simply down to how much horsepower they put in the thing a year ago.

I hope to see how the iPad Air 2 performs under IOS9. Then I guess I'll whine if it doesn't seem fast enough ;)

It's fantastic. I'm running the GM on my Air 2. We won't get the full effect of it until the app updates begin rolling in to take advantage of Split View, but performance wise it's identical to 8.4.1.

As a minor update, I installed the iOS 9.1 PB last night. Early results seem to be that battery life is much better on my Air 2, and the touchscreen is much more responsive. I may literally never run iOS 9.0.

Both are exceptionally good points.

Forget the GM, iOS 9.1 PB1 runs very smoothly, it's hard to believe that it's a beta. I'm looking forward to apps updating too, would that be a thing on 9.1 PB?

Maybe Apple will release a new iPad Air 3 off cycle. As others have stated, the iPad Air and the iPad Pro are most similar and it may be in their best interest to not have those two models refreshed at once. It's hard for me to believe that Apple will let the iPad Air sit for another year without an update--but who knows.

And, I have posted a couple of times this morning, early results on my Air 2 are battery life that is a good bit better than I was getting on 8.x and much better than I got on 9.0 PB 1 and PB 3. Obviously more time will tell more, but early results are great. The touchscreen is more responsive, too.

Hopefully when the Air 3 does come out, there will be an option for a smart keyboard. Hoping for a spring release, but not holding my breath.
I wrote a 60-page work almost entirely on an iPad Air with a Logitech Keys to Go keyboard. What turned out especially good about this setup was that the KB isn't attached to the tablet. I could move the tablet in its mount to wherever was space and write e.g. while the KB was on an open book. Very nice.
