i really hate the 2g plan i ended up paying like 4 times because i was going to go over. i only need it for a month out of the year but i would use it more if i had unlimited data.

Welcome to capitalism. Prices will not go down until enough people complain and said company gets enough bad press to make a deal.

It's not just bills people generally lie down and take crap from the goverment etc also without making themselves heard.

I am paying too much for connectivity. I find that I am duplicating a lot of stuff. Cell phone - land line; 3G - Cable modem. I'm looking for a way to simplify!

they are a business, we are consumers. They offer products, we have the choice to buy them or not. It's as simple as that, nothing more nothing less.

I think it's so senseless when people complain about things like these.

You don't need a car. You could bike or use the bus. You don't need a house, you can live without a roof. But guess what, it's incredibly convenient to have these things.

Except for those who use it for up-to-the-minute business transactions (where it's a business expense anyway), cell phone/iPad/laptop 3G internet simply doesn't compare to having a house, or a reliable mode of transportation.

As it's been said, if you don't want the services, don't pay. I just have home internet and cell phone internet, and consequently I am never without decent internet. If I got an iPad, I wouldn't get the iPad 3G. I don't want to get a laptop 3G data card. I don't even need 3G on my phone *that* often. Free/already paid for WiFi is simply ubiquitous these days. And deals on home internet get better all the time.

I'm paying 20 bucks a month for basic cable AND 20 Mbps internet. When cable internet was first becoming popular, it was 50-60 bucks a month in my area, and 1.56 Mbps was the best you could hope for. Personally I'm fairly happy with the way things have turned out, on the whole.

Would be nice if there were a discount. $60/mo for home Internet. $30/mo each for 3 iPhone unlimited plans and the iPad unlimited plan.. /sigh

right now I'm enjoying my 3Gs unlimited plan as is my wife. although I've never ever paid anything for any of my cell phone bills. I've always had a job where they are expensed. what's nice about my job is they also give me a Verizon MiFi card too :D

I just don't understand how in the world people are okay with paying for data per their devices.

Here is an example....

Typical iPhone 4 user pays 25-30 dollars a month for data. They probably have home internet. So, they also pay that separately. Oh, and they want air card, so they pay that separately. If you have family with multiple iphones, you pay 30 dollars per line on data.

You got iPad 3G? Oh, another 25 dollars. No tethering unless you jailbreak.

This is absolutely crazy.

How in the world are you all people okay with paying all of this? I don't care if you are on VZ, AT&T or Sprint. These companies are so greedy and they are charging just w/e they want. With tiered pricing, most of people will be start paying even more.

Someone else provides my cable internet, so that's irrelevant. The no tethering thing is AT&T. Get an EVO if you want one device to provide data access for everything. AT&T isn't exactly making money hand over fist and they're barely treading water with their available bandwidth. I don't think this is a greed thing as much as it is about feasibility atm.

The prices did come down although the data size dropped as well. I strongly believe that at least 80% of users out there can fully function on the $15/mo plan.

We could talk about profit margin vs network expansion all day long and about general profit with ANY type of company, esp with this economy. But it's as true as it gets. They have to make enough money to justify the outcry of data upgrades across their network. Imagine for a moment if you look at T-Mobile 3 years ago. They barely had EDGE running in large cities like ATL and their service in NYC was horrendous. Now people in NYC claim that T-Mobile is fantastic and that AT&T sucks although that's just the I'm cool bandwagon BS that everyone buys into. But in all seriousness, the money we pay for data is going toward upgrading the network.

I remember when whole new cities were added to the coverage areas for T-Mobile, VZW, Cingular etc... You don't see that much now.

I guess it comes down to this, some people can, some can't and others shouldn't. Yeah prices are high, and if people are paying for all those services and never have the same thoughts as yourself, they fall into the "can" category. The rest of us fall in the "shouldn't".

who says you have to have home internet service, smart phone, air card and ipad 3G? i just have 2/4. my wife has an air card paid by her employer which is who pays for most of them.

Here in the UK I'm paying £10 a month for 100mins and 100 texts, and that includes unlimited data. I have the same plan for my iPad. So that's a grand total of £20 (~$30) for unlimited data on both devices :)

how can you compare internet on your cell phone vs having a car or roof over your head? If anything, not having internet on your phone is like having 4 cylinders in your car rather than 6, or having one less room in your house.

If you consider having internet on your phone in this day and age to be a commodity, then I'd consider having /basic/ things car and house an absolute NECESSITY.

no worries for me , 1m 3g connection 15€ 24m internet connection <30€? im not sure but i dont care becouse company i work for pays all of those.

$30 for 500meg/300mins/unlimited texts is fine for me and that's not alot. thats a day's work even for a minimum wage person.

Makes you wonder how we survived ten years ago without 3G on our mobiles. I didn't even have a mobile then, and had dial up internet.

Now I pay £15 for cable internet at home, plus £12 for my landline. I pay £20 for my mobile for 600 min/600 texts/unlimited data. These are monthly rates. Yes, we have better deals over here in the UK, if we pay £499/£599 for the iPhone upfront.
