The point is though, no one pays that...at least not smart people(or maybe just bizness that don't care..ie the write it off come tax time)

..they get AC, which is what this person got...so your point is moot:D

It's not moot. It was suggested the OP get AppleCare and my point is if you know what you're doing, you may consider otherwise to save some money.

Easy, it's called a business expense. Business expenses decrease profit, which decrease your tax bill.:D

Ya, well the $400 quoted is for people who aren't smart enough to get a warranty like AC or something similar. The repair bill could say $2000 for hard disk repair, but if you have AC, it doesn't matter, you don't pay that:)
