After reading the well written OP and all of the ignorant flaming posts thereafter, all I could do was face palm...I guess that's what happens when you complain about anything Apple on an Apple fan site. In addition to this, I don't understand how someone can take the time to reply to a thread and call it a useless waste of space and time...oh the irony.

But on topic, despite some dismissing the adapter as not being significant, speak for yourself. I, like the OP, use many many many accessories that are absolutely useless right now. I don't understand how Apple could have thought it was a good idea to launch the iPhone 5, which (like we just established) hinders every single iPhone accessory useless, before having the adapters ready  And also like the OP, I preordered my iPhone before the whole adapter situation and time frame was made apparent.

In conclusion, it really annoys the **** out of me that Apple would put the iPhone 5 on preorder knowing damn well that the adapters wouldn't be ready, yet keeping it on the DL. Now MY rant is over.

Dude.. this thread is about the lightning to 30 pin adapter. Not about the lightning to usb cable.

Same difference, since the majority of the needs for the adapter would be more easily solved by the new cable instead. As for the adapter itself, I would suggest calling your local store as it appears some have them and others do not. Maybe the boxes I saw were empty "place holders." I didn't investigate further since the $19 cable would do the same for me as the $29 adapter.

I completely agree with the OP and tantric! It's complete BS that Apple could not come out with this simple adapter at release time. The reason people bought docks was the convenience of charging and using the devices in a simple fashion. Who wants to connect a bunch of cables to the phone each time?

I would speculate that this was a 'planned' move by Apple for unknown reasons. I once had Siri on my iPhone4 until the 4s came out and it became disabled on a subsequent ios update. Siri worked perfectly fine on a A4 chip.

Fortunately, I did not preorder and can wait for this adapter to come out and see how it actually works for a car integration with my Wife's iPhone5. At least with the pre-orders, you knew when the phone was going to be available, but with the adapter you get the nebulous 'October' time frame. I'll assume October 15.

Makes you wonder how great the adapter will really be? I already hear that external control (like steering wheel or remote controls for docks) won't work because Apple did not support this. Perhaps that's why they are slow on the adapter because it will seriously underwhelm its benefit and make people rethink if an upgrade is in their best interests.

Shoot even the selection of cases is pretty dismal for the phone at the moment. Apple must have felt very threatened by the Samsung Galaxy S3 to rollout their phone before the most basic infrastructure is in place. Even the Microsoft Zune had better support at release time than this phone does!

If I could predict how badly this upgrade was going to go, I would have gotten a 4s when I could still get a 32GB model- now it's just 16GB that's available! I might be keeping my iPhone4 32GB longer than I had planned.

So do you feel better now that you've finished ranting?

Email Phil Schiller. I did, and got a call from the "executive liaison team" wanting to know my concerns. I expressed my disappointment in the lack of adapter availability, making the phone useless in my car.

I think it is pretty obvious.
They have a limited amount of stock and they are waiting for the new iPods to be released.
iPhone users will gobble up all the stock and its more important for dock adapters to be used with the iPods.

I grabbed 2 today from a Verizon kiosk in the mall :D
The only 2 they had.. I'm with AT&T and search 5 stores including the apple store before I found them... They are out there but you have to put in a little bit of work to find them

Pics or it didn't happen.

Really you bought an Apple Lightning to 30 pin adapter? I just talked to an Apple store and this accessory has not shipped yet. Besides the 'October' time frame, the store has no idea when this accessory will arrive. So it's very interesting if you actually did get one of these accessories or if your purchase is really something else like a USB-to-lighting which is very much available.

So do you feel better now that you've finished ranting?

^Maybe a little. I guess it was worth registering for that rant maybe.

Look at all the ranting that has occurred in the media about the maps issue. I'm actually pretty happy with the mapping so you won't hear any ranting from me on that subject.

The longer Apple delays shipment and prolongs an availability date, the more ranting you will hear from others. My guess is people that think this is a minor issue have not invested in the car iPod adapters that cost $200 and take about 2+ hours of labor to install. If you had, you would very much know what people like myself are 'ranting' about. The $30 adapter (which should be $10 or even included with the phone) protects a $400 investment that no USB-lightning cable will ever solve.

No stores have the adapters. They have plenty of cables. I already bought a extra cable. And no!, cables dont work for everything.

I have a pioneer app radio car system which has the old dock. I cant use it with the new phone without the adapter.

The majority? Possibly. But those that need adapters (like myself) simply can't use anything else. I haven't heard of any stores stocking actual adapters. The adapters thread certainly hasn't produced any finds.

^ When no adapters have surfaced to date and there is no information on the Apple web site, it's tough to take your words at face value and just believe you walked into a Verizon Kiosk and bought an adapter.

All the Apple stores in San Diego don't have an adapter and don't know when they will receive shipment. It is a little hard to believe without some elaboration at least- a picture will certainly help us 'doubting Thomas'.
I believe these adapters cost $29 so it gets even more suspicious when you quote $20.

Did you try this adapter and did the remote control for your dock work?

thanks

I completely 100% agree with the OP in this post. To not have these adapters READILY available at launch is a huge fault of Apple's. I am an avid Apple fan with iPads, iMacs, AppleTV, new iPhone every year and this is the only thing that has ever frustrated me.

I got my phone last Tuesday, and purchased a cable at the time I bought the phone. The next day I purchased a second cable, so I could have one in my car, one at home and one at work. Luckily the cables are available in my area. I went back yesterday (one week and a few days later on a Friday) hoping the initial "shock" of having to buy these has died down, and they still didn't have any. The associate I spoke with mentioned they get shipments in sporadically, but they sell out before the afternoon is over.

I have an iHome at work, a dock speaker in my bathroom and a dual dock for my nightstand which charges my iPad and iPhone at the same time. I cannot use any of these products with my new phone and it's frustrating. I easily dropped $200 (I'm sure that's low compared to other products out there) on all of these products combined and not having the adapter is an annoyance.

Yes, I understand that it's not the end of the world, and I have NO issues with Apple changing the dock. It's necessary to have the phone get thinner. Not having the adapter available is inexcusable. This is what Tim Cook should be apologizing for as well as maps.

 lol... Why would anybody lie about buying lightning adapters ..lol
$20 a pop... If pics are needed for some people to believe, I will post when I get home Monday

A twenty a pop, you bought the USB to Lightning CABLE. Not the 30 pin adapter, which costs $29. They are different.

Yah I am getting impatient waiting for the adapter as well. Apple just take my 40 bucks and send me a freaking 0.2m adapter please. Need one for my car.
