Complaints about the hidden features?

I'm struggling to find the "Hidden Features" section, could you tell me which page it's on?

Re-arrange tabs in tab view:

I’m sure most people are already aware but just in case... you can press and hold on a tab in the tabs preview to rearrange the tab or drag to left or right side to open in split view. Obviously you can also rearrange tabs from the tab bar at the top by pressing and dragging.

Here’s a very useful tip I recently discovered...

In iOS - Safari: By tapping two fingers on a link, it will open it in a new tab.
It’s like the “open in new tab” functionality on the mac.

Didn’t know...thanks for that. Very useful.

I like how Mobile Safari lets you toggle between Private and non-Private mode. I stay in Private mode all the time (as a web developer) because then I'm not fighting with cached data. I wish the desktop version of Safari gave us this option. I believe Firefox does.
Oh yes!!!!! (Also as a web developer) The cached data in the desktop Safari is sooo annoying. I'm constantly having to empty the cache to test JS changes/update. On the flip side though, it's great for the end users browsing experience.

Here’s some more pro Safari tips...

Want to load a page that has some element that isn’t loading or is hanging?

Want to download an image that Safari won’t give you the option to?

Use another browser.

Which browser is better? Chrome is equal to someone taking a huge dump on my computer and firefox slightly better depending upon if they messed with a nicely working version.

You can do the same with long pressing on the link and then it will give you the option to open in background, which is the same. (I like this option if I want to continue on the current page and then look at the link later.) But a simple two finger click is nice as well!

I just like the option to change the default browser on iOS, just like you can on MacOS. it's ok to install another browser, but if you click a link in Mail or App Store it still opens in Safari

On desktop Safari, clicking File, New Private Window does just that, it opens a new private window. So instead of a toggle like on iOS, you switch between the two windows to basically do the same thing. Or does that somehow not work the same way, and I'm just not aware of the differences?

My very favorite most useful trick - IOS Safari makes a FREE fantastic PDFs

NO APPS or NO SHORTCUTS - it’s already built in to Safari.

In any website open in Safari

• click on Action button the square with the up arrow.
• Select the icon action that says print. Not copy, not a third-party printer you may have installed, just the one that comes with Apple

• You will then see a Printer Options dialog with a preview of the first page below.

Touch the page preview and spread two fingers like you would to “zoom” anything.

At that point you are now looking at a PDF and you can use the action button to send it to any file, any application, store it locally, email etc.

Close All Tabs is killer - thanks for the heads-up!

Also, as expected... a positive story about the iPhone that lets people know about hidden features is greeted with juvenile burns and tiny moan-n-whines from those still in junior high school.
wether its a pooper scooper or your hand, you're still picking up dog poop.

Long press on "Done"? That might be the new king example of poor discoverability in UX from now on.

It boggles my mind. When did discoverability become so unfashionable in UI design? I thought Windows 8 infatuation with invisible controls was bad (try explaining that to your elderly father). This actively hides functionality behind controls labeled for other tasks.

...the epitome of hidden features that are keyboard shortcuts

Keyboard shortcuts done right are not hidden features at all. They are fast access to features available through more visible and discoverable menus and controls. Once you know about a feature you can take the extra step of learning the shortcut if you use it frequently.

"Add to home Screen" from the share menu makes a bookmark-icon for a specific site on your iphone. Great for reoccurring site visits.

I think Safari on iOS is up for a GUI update.

Interesting this comes out right after Edge for Mac is released. Safari was fast for about 2-months before Google updated Chrome. So far, I'm impressed with Edge Beta with its clean looking; more business-like' appearance. Currently, Safari is the slowest of the lot (on my 2017 MBP) while Chrome is fast, though a tad junk-filled.

Since I run Office365, Edge is a nice compliment, and I hope they can keep it uncluttered and speedy.

Fantastic... thanks for the tips.. veru useful.

Why doesn't APPLE clearly promote these very useful features..??? so many hidden functions...

Long press on address bar pops up copy dialog. Saves one tap and some hassle when copying an address.

While in private browsing mode: zooming out (i.e. pinching) sufficiently in tabbed view shows previews of non-private pages too. Without releasing the two fingers after pinching let’s you to (kind of) scroll around in the view. Beats me if the feature has any real use case, though.

An added bonus (at least for iPad non-force touch): While writing in a text dialog, tap keyboard with two fingers. Text select is activated. Place two fingers on the keyboard again and move them to select more text. Quite handy compared to tapping text to be selected with one finger to summon up [select | select all] dialog, especially after moving cursor to a new position with two fingers pressed on the keyboard. Tap the keyboard once more with two fingers to cancel selection. Tap either one of the two blue pins with one finger to get [cut | copy | ... ] dialog. Works in other applications too. Unfortunately, the text select feature (or more specifically summoning up the aforementioned dialog) seems to be a bit inconsistent across applications.

Thanks for all the nice tips!. ’Filter & close all filtered tabs’ feature is super useful for all messy browser users like me.

Which filter? I've found Safari behaving weirdly sometimes, kind of similar to your description.

Any of the easy list filters. Turn them off. Only use the filters in the first section. I learned through some searching that I had double filtering going because I selected ad guard filters and easy list filters. Just stick with the AdGuard filters.

Very happy now, things are blazing again. Still pissed I didn’t think of that sooner. Just get used to having ad blocks that you forget it.

Why not just tap the pdf button? Why print?
