For #5 -- that is a throw back to old apps where command-. was used as a stop / terminate -- whatever. Another alternative if you need to "send" an escape is control-[ since that is what escape really is.

Really? I've let to find an app where it doesn't work. e.g. Safari, Terminal, etc.

It’s weird, because in previous versions it worked. I dont know when it disappeared but for some reason finder is the only app the has the window cycling menu bar item available

That was too many steps for Keychain. If you only want to view the password simply double click the Keychain item to open and and tick show password. Authenticate with you user account password and you can see the password. No need to involve textedit in the process
You can also copy the password from both keychain views to paste into the website or wherever you are trying to use it. Still no need to use textedit as a go between though..

Don't know if what I say is actually true (More levels): If you slide up in iOS you get into control centre, next hold the volume, a bigger one shows up (Full screen), seems to me there are more levels there.

True, I think and generally on-screen volume controls elsewhere in the UI seem to offer more granular control as well. But it's just bad design that the easiest way to change the volume (the buttons dedicated to that purpose) yields just 16 levels.

Hello, friends.

This Mac is OsX 10.7.5. Would it be possible to upgrade it to 10.8, please? :apple:
Way off topic, but... maybe? Depends on whether your Mac meets the hardware requirements for 10.8.

#7 is new to me and I have wanted it for years!

One of the things that I find frustrating about MacOS is that there are so many useful things like that, but Apple doesn't bother to document them.

Thanks for these valuable nuggets.

Anyone know of a keyboard shortcut for "right click"?

When writing and editing for extended periods, reaching out for the mouse or trackpad just to right click breaks the flow of simply having both hands on the keyboard tapping away.

Any tips appreciated. Thx!

I would love to use the Command + Tilde trick, but it doesn't work on a Mac with a JIS (Japanese) QWERTY keyboard. Rather, Command + Tilde increases the font size in applications (which is also useful).
Then go to Finder > View and see what the shortcut is on your system.

Edit: It's the Finder's Window menu, not the view menu.

There is no "View" option in my Finder pull-down menu...

Does Sys Prefs have a keyboard shortcut listed?

7. Use Command + Tilde to Switch Between Windows
- If you have multiple windows of the same application open, you can shift between them quickly using Command + Tilde. So, for example, if you have a ton of Safari windows open, this keyboard command will let you sort through them quickly.

Number 7 should be CMD BACKTICK/GRAVE ACCENT (not tilde), according to Apple:

The tilde and grave accent aren't always on the same key in different languages, so this is plain wrong as written.

CMD SHIFT KEY WITH THE @ SIGN? (It's the backtick/grave accent [not the tilde] that you want.)

Is there a way to re-program this? on my norwegian keyboard the "`" key requires me to hold down shift to access and it's fairly far away from the cmd button...

Command + Period in lieu of the escape key Does not work in the Terminal, where it’s most needd.

I tried that combination, but unfortunately it does nothing on my machine (OSX with High Sierra).

I found that I could sorta re-enable this shortcut by going into system preferences > keyboard > shortcuts > keyboard and then checkmarking "Move focus to active or next window" and then adding my own shortcut.

Or you could just go to "Move focus to next window" and change the shortcut from cmd + ` to something else because that seems to reenable it

Yep, looks like you're right. Bummer. I've updated the article to note this. I do think it was phased out once before in a different update and then added back, so maybe Apple will bring it back again?
You are correct, it was removed before. I can't see why they'd remove it again, unless this is a bug. Perhaps it was a bug the first time too.

I knew about this for macOS, but is there a similar volume incrementer for iOS? I always have to make minute volume adjustments by using the Digital Crown on my Apple Watch.
You can manually drag the volume slider to wherever you want, from control center. Lets you have even finer control than the macOS version.
