Try this:

Start in verbose mode, run fsck (type 'fsck -y') until you get the 'appears to be ok' message, then type 'launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist', you should get a message saying mdns has failed, then type 'reboot'.

Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it. But I finally reinstall Leopard on my iBook yesterday, since I can't fix it anyway. Tried to boot using target mode with my friend's Macbook, it worked and nothing seems to be a problem, but it just won't work when I boot normally. Then I decided to just reinstall my Leopard, and stick with 10.5.1 until at least I got new battery for my iBook. 😀

Thanks anyway!

Same Problem - traced to USB printer

I had the slow boot problems -- six minutes of blue screen. The post on a card reader in a USB printer tweaked my thinking and I simply unplugged one of my USB printers (an HP 7310xi Office Jet) and the slow boot problem went away -- I'm back to a 45-second boot.

No card reader involved -- just a USB printer. I'll download and install a new printer driver and see if that helps.
