First I can tell you that this is NOT true at all. I worked at At&T for 5 years and left in MAY for better schedule. However I can tell you the employees are getting first dibs, there is NO doubt this goes on. ALSO I can tell you that the Managers set aside a certain amount for OBF's that may occur. They need to have those sitting aside for escalations.

I can tell you for sure employees are not able to purchase the iPhone 6 at this time. Maybe there are one off's but company policy is that they can't. They may have put them aside for frequent customers, business accounts or for friends but not employees themselves.

Got news for you buddy, you are WRONG!!!!!

Has it occurred to anyone that if they say they don't have 64gb, most customers will pay $100 more for 128gb instead of downgrading? Then their commission is instantly higher.

Incorrect, they don't get commission based on the selling price of the phone. Their commission comes from the number of lines activated, post-paid versus pre-paid, and any other add-one such as data.

No, this happens every year. They hold back some phones on launch day so they have a few to sell over the weekend. It's not just AT&T, most retailers do it.

Makes sense and logical, but why hold back the seemingly most popular configuration?

This exact thing happened at my store. AT&T company store in Altamonte Springs. I was second in line and somehow ended up with a spread of 16GB models. I grabbed a manager angrily and demanded he find me my phone.

Luckily the guy who was fourth in line, which we're now great friends, ended up with my phone. iPhone 6 Plus Space Gray 64GB. He swapped me out of pure respect that I was ahead of him in line and the process was jacked up. So stupid how they did that, knowing they were scarce on Plus models.

Wow! You sound like an absolutely wonderful person. Just ... Wow!

Why would you want a 6+ anyway? That thing is HUGE. If I were you, I'd just go for the 6 in 64GB and get it whenever you want.

Maybe they were hoping to set them aside for employee purchases/friends. Shady indeed. Glad it worked out for you.

That, or as some other guy posted a while back, they were "reserved" for people who paid the employees a little extra kickback to "cover shipping costs" and make extra certain the phone they wanted was there for them.

Why would you want a 6? The 6 is HUGE. The 5s is big enough, you should just keep using that.

Everyone's got their reasons for picking the size they picked.

It may not be directly tied to the selling price, but there are definite extra incentives given from time to time when certain models are selling slowly and the company wants to move that stock. This is why a few weeks from now, those same reps are going to be steering customers away from iPhones because "this Android model is so much better."

I think you have it backward to some extent

And this is why you preorder. So you don't have to deal with this crap. Ill have my plus a few hours after you and guess what? All I did was sit at my computer to get it.

God some people just never learn.

Completely disagree. I, as well as hundreds of thousand of people got screwed with their pre-orders. Also, I believe that many people tend to enjoy the fact that they pre-ordered and they will be " the first ones" to get them. Truth be told, and no offense to you, that the ones that stayed on line this morning (only 2.5 hours for me at an AT&T store) have them before all pre-order people and that must somehow bother the daylights out of many people since in their hearts they want to be first (which of course they are not but indeed now second) and take a perverse pleasure with other people's misfortunes.

It is a very American cultural thing, but if you read many posts, the transparency is self evident. I am not saying this is you, but for many that is the case.

There are no guarantees in life. Pre-orders many times get screwed up and even if they don't they are the SECOND group of people that gets the phone. Let's be honest, with the iPhone especially, it is ALL about getting it first.

I have had a iPhone 6 plus gold 128 GB since 8:15am EST. I think I am one of the first to have it in the USA ;)

Funny part is I know all the Managers at that store, and this would have got him NO WHERE!!!

I was two seconds away from walking out without buying any phones. He felt bad for me for waiting so long, 14 hours, and started searching for the phone. He came back empty handed but was saved by my fellow buddy in line.

That cool the guy helped you out, I heard there were 4 in line around 8pm last night. I almost came up to join you all, but fell asleep:(

My local Verizon store was the same deal. No 6 plus phones for anyone. The associate claims they had them but, ran out before getting to #5. What a crock!

I preordered.

I'm scheduled to get mine sometime in November.

The OP has his phone today.

Which person won, him or I?
