Wow I would love to get my hands on a Canon XL2 (and hopefully will be in the summer) just the ability to pull focus like that would be so much better compared to my HG10!

So would I, they are brilliant, if not expensive. My uni is pretty awesome as all we have to do is book them out and we can get it for about a week depending on demand. Next year we can get a Panasonic HPX500, and dam are they amazing!! I helped out on a mates film who used it and it looks so sexy. Here are the results:

*Note* This is not my film, I just worked as a grip on it.

That film is really good! Sure the fighting isnt great but the blood affect at the end looks pretty real!!!

So are you at a uni/college in the UK?

Im going to a course in the summer and should hopefully be able to make a film similar to this! Should be pretty fun!

But I agree with you, the quality of the image is so good in that short.

Yeah, I'm at Staffordshire University studying Film Production Technology BSc, it's probably in the top 3 for the course in the country.

That will be really cool! How long is the course? I wanna try and do some post courses over the summer but I don't know if I'll have the time or money :(

I'll post a few more films I've done later.

Ok so I have watched all four and there are all good!

@Gooners4Life: Not my style of video but you might want to have the gun shots and kills etc. in time to the music for extra emphasis!

@FSMBP: Not the cleanest edit ever but really funny stuff! Can't wait for the film! Might have to nick the My Dick song as I would work a treat in this 24 parody I am doing when Jack Bauer enters! For the titles of the people did you just freeze frame and add a mask in like after effects then reduce the opacity on a composite layer? Really good script and good fun humor!

@RamLax13: Looks like it could be a good documentary, pity you can't put the whole thing up! Good mixture of static interviews and moving in the trailer! Looks good!

@MooseFace: Some of these shots are really good! Love the adjustment to the depth of field. First song is good too! The story line isn't that strong but I realise that you were just focusing on the editing! What camera did you use and there are some realllllly nice crisp shots!

And thats the list updated again! I can't recommend watching all of them enough!

I have also digged this thread as it has recieved over 1,000 views on Macrumors alone and it should be a good way for us novice film makers to get some promotion!

Thanks. Oh the edit job was horrid as best. It was before Final Cut Express. It was edited on a PC with Pinnacle "Crashes Every Minute" Studios. I've become a much much better editor since then!!!

For the titles, I took the freeze frame into Photoshop and duplicated the layer. The background layer was manilupated to add color and effects. The foreground later had the actual actor (he was cut on).

Nice!

I will try and have a look at these this weekend!

I am in the process of shooting a 24 parody film which is near completion and should be up soon!

We are a tour guide for local real estate, area events.

We don't script fancy voice overs, we talk one on one with the real estate buyer. They don't need Hollywood, they need helpful. If you try to get fancy and compete with a 40 million dollar production, you will fail. We show the local events, the run down of the property.

Here is the local fourth of july 4 days compressed into a nine minute video.

so i wanted to focus on the emotional impact that broken love inflicts on an individual- so for our schools senior project, where we had to make a film adaptation of any book weve read, I created a short film adaptation of The Great Gatsby, set in the modern day, that shines a light on Gatsby's chase for Daisy. Thus the name, Chasing Daisy. (a reference to the romantic movie Chasing Daisies). i wrote the script and my friend filmed and edited the thing. We got an A, obviously, but it didint come out EXACTLY how I wanted it.

this was my first foray into digital filmmaking and my god, no matter how challening it was, I loved every minute of it. Yeah, its amateur, and yeah, its got flaws. But its the birth of my new hobby. Hope you guys enjoy it.

Exporting on FCE using Quicktime Conversion for iDVD

I am exporting a FCE project to iDVD to burn a 40 minute DVD. The camera I used was a Standard Definition Sony, and I taped on MiniDV.

What FCE exporting settings and iDVD settings do you recommend for the best quality?

I believe I used these settings at the time:

FCE>File>Export>Using Quicktime Conversion>Video Settings>
Format: H.264
Motion Frame Rate: Current fps
Keyframes: Every 15
Compressor Quality: Best
Encoding: Best Quality
Data Rate: Automatic
Optimized for: Download (This wouldn't let me change it to CD/DVD)

iDVD
Video: NTSC
Encoding: Professional Quality
Video Type: Single-Layer
Burn Speed: 1x

The DVD playback was very disturbing. Anytime there was motion and especially when the camera panned, there were wavy lines on the screen. The picture looked unprofessional.

How do I fix this?

I'm pretty good in FCE, but have little knowledge of compression and encoding and interlacing VS. progressive. It's foreign to me. All I want is a video that does not have wavy lines when the camera moves.

Any help is welcome!

Thanks,
Mike

Here is a film I completed this week at the London Academy of Media and film. My first time using a prosumer camera and I got little trigger happy on the smooth slow function!

A lot of visuals set to the music of Hometown Glory by Adele

Edit: Finally updated the whole list! We now have 26 videos!

This is probably towards the amateur-ish end of the scale...but it's still pretty fun to watch...

What program did you use for the text as I really like the affect!

May I also say on a side note that you have a pretty mean set up!

I've looked at a few of your movies guys and woa they look darn good.

I am in the process of putting together short clips of some of my friends and I back in 2004 remixing Jackass with our own stuffs (which is obviously cheaper). As of right now, I'm using Windows Movie Maker, but since I'll get my uMBP in a few weeks, I'm thinking of re doing the whole thing to make it better.

Here is my channel if you want to check it out:

You can watch my trailer and my ad.

Note: I know I don't own the rights, but it's just some sort of comedy/spoof/HS memories, so no big deal :D
