Can anyone running the iOS 27 Beta tell me if you can collaborate on locked Apple Notes now? I have a few locked notes I'd like to be able to share with my wife that we can both update, but as of iOS 26 that appears to be impossible.

No, cannot share locked notes. A workaround would be to use Pages and password protect the document.

Not passwords, but other semi sensitive info. Passport scans, drivers licenses, tax numbers, marriage certificate, baby birth certificate, etc. A lot of it exists as photos in our shared library at the moment, but not as searchable as I’d like and not exactly secure.
I was exploring if there was a native alternative to buying something like Uplock. I could look at a pages doc but that feels more annoying than having it in a Note somehow.
Anyway, thanks for verifying for me, I appreciate the help.

Do you need a locked Apple Note? If both you and your collaborator have turned on Advanced Data Protection that would seem to be sufficient protection.
I use ADP, but I am not sharing any Notes (i.e., I haven't tested this). I note that when I start to share a Note I get the option to Send a Copy or Collaborate.
I don’t think ADP does what I’m looking for at all. My phone is way more likely to be stolen after someone shoulder-surfs my PIN as opposed to my iCloud account being breached. The locked note is to protect the data on my physical device.

You could lock the Notes app as a whole to prevent that. So the note itself isn't locked, but the app on your phone is.
Personally I use 1Password for D/L or passport images, but that's a subscription, and I understand you're trying to do it with a native app.
If you want to stay native as possible, you could try the following below. It may be a little janky and I'm not 100% sure if it'll work, but it seems like it should.
Alternatively, if you don't care about having all your notes on your wife's phone (or vice versa), decide if you or your wife should be the "master" account for notes and add that account to the other phone.
- Create a 3rd iCloud/Apple account.
- On each of your devices, go to Settings > Apps > Notes > Notes Accounts.
- Add this new account.
- Move the notes you want on both devices into this account.
Alternatively, if you don't care about having all your notes on your wife's phone (or vice versa), decide if you or your wife should be the "master" account for notes and add that account to the other phone.

Won't work.
Secondary iCloud accounts only have access to Mail, Contacts, and Calendars on devices.
Hey y'all, I appreciate the suggestions but they all sound way too convoluted to set up and maintain, or to explain to my wife. I had hoped there was a straightforward way to share and access this sort of stuff natively, but it seems that a third party solution really is the only sane option as of yet.

I try to never enter my password in public... instead, I use Face ID. So my entire phone is encrypted when it is not in my pocket.
I mean, yeah, I'm not choosing to enter my password instead of FaceID, but FaceID isn't flawless and sometimes I just need to use my phone.
