But then it'll look like just a series 2 or even a series 0...

Well the look of the watch hasn't changed. the non-cellular version without the red dot looks just like the series 0-2. I don't think Apple added the red dot to distinguish it from the older models, isn't it to signify cellular service? and what I am saying is that there is no need to signify that on the stainless steel version since it's the only option.

Anyone think this is odd ? How do you use your thumb with the crown in?! Do you do a reach around ?! Your thumb would be on the other side unless you go from the top.

I don't understand. My right thumb matches up perfectly with the crown on the inside of my left wrist.

I've convinced a couple other Apple Watch folks to turn theirs around after seeing mine.

I get you, but it's probably Apple showing you have the latest and greatest...

I don't have an issue with the red dot if the watch has a black, red or white band on it, but if you put on some bands it will look ridiculous

Have a look here and try some different coloured bands (it's surely no coincidence that some of the bands show the watch without a dot for the product photo!)

In all fairness some of these striped bands look ridiculous even without the red dot! :D

I'd recommend buying a bottle of nail polish and putting a dot of it on the watch dot. Should last a lot longer than a sharpie marker coloring.
For those of you that have wives, girlfriends, etc., haven't you noticed that after a week or so, their nail polish is already cracking, peeling, and looking like crap?

It seems like Sharpie ink would more permanent/durable. Sharpie ink survives numerous washing/laundering when written on cloth material.

Mine looks crap after 30 mins! Shellac is what you need but it needs to be set under UV light and still won’t stay on permanently!

Yeah, but scrolling with your thumb and then using your index finger to tap on the screen is more involved (and somewhat obscures the screen) than just scrolling with your index finger and tapping with the same.

You're just stuck in the past, wedded to tradition! Embrace change! Go crown in! ;)

But to be serious, I just find crown in more natural, especially when I'm running. I find the double-button press--to pause the exercise app--a bit easier too.

I think you may be onto something. On regular watches people don’t really interact with the crown often. But smart watches are completely different.

I would consider trying except I’d see that red dot more! :)

Until Apple decide to remove the crown like they have the home button on the X :D:rolleyes:

That would be terrible.

What I really want is another button, or the ability to use the existing second button to make selections within apps. The touch screen doesn't work well (i.e., at all) when it and your fingers are covered in sweat. They helpfully added the double-press-to-(un)pause feature, but sometimes I want to do something else--like add a new sport in a multi-sport workout--that requires working touch screen controls.

For a watch that can and will get wet a lot, I wouldn’t think watchdots would hold up well.
Totally untrue! I have had the blue color on my alum 38 for well over 6 months now, it gets wet every day.
They will hold up extremely well and should be a very good way to eliminate the aesthetically unpleasing, unpleasant and classless red dot for all of those red dot whiners out there!

Knowing I was going to get the LTE version of the Series 3, I was initially upset with the red dot. Then after I ordered I decided to "own it" and started looking forward to that dash of color on the watch. Now that it has arrived I'm a bit disappointed; it's no big deal, red instead of black. But the watch is sweet!

Changed it to the orientation because I grew tired of hitting the crown and it snagging sleeves of pullovers and jackets

I've embraced the red dot.

So much so, that I've added a new band to my collection that accentuates the red dot. This one is the EloBeth Sport and is a great band for only USD$9.98.
