My wife slipped and fell last night and shattered her new iPhone 4. The front and back glass shattered. It was in her purse and flew out on the way down. We drove 2 hours to the nearest Apple store this morning after making an appointment and Apple was more concerned that my wife was OK. We were planning on paying the $199 fee to get it repaired and they did it for free without us asking.

So I guess I'm just making this thread because I'm glad that Apple really does care about their customers. Every time I have had an issue, Apple has gone above and beyond. :D

Got pics of the busted phone? :D

I just noticed something interesting with her new phone antenna. Her old iPhone 4, as well as my current iPhone 4, easily drop bars by touching the bottom left. I cannot recreate this with her new phone. I know Apple said there are no hardware changes but it definitely does not have the antenna problem. Her new phone did not come with 4.0.1 FWIW.

Oh well, thanks for reading and the kind comments about the safety of my wife.

Did you you test the new (of old) phones before or after FW 4.0.1?

Unfortunately no, and the Apple store took the old phone. I wish I would have taken pictures. It was shattered more than any iPhone I've ever seen. It never stopped working though and I was able to back it up before heading to the Apple store.

i was just gonna post that they really have been accomodating to shattered iphones. this makes me think they know the glass sucked and they have also changed that.

FWIW, I don't think he was questioning the legitimacy of your story, just the usual trolling of a positive thread.

I wasn't questioning the story OR trolling the thread. I just think its ridiculous when exceptions are made on a case by case basis. If they are going to replace cracked phones for free, they should replace ALL cracked phones for free. Not just certain ones because his wife fell down. Thats all.

First of all, we didn't make anything up. My wife didn't cry fake tears. Although she did start crying out of happiness when he walked out with a new phone to hand her for free. Second, we had full intention of paying.

Really? A grown woman cried when her phone was replaced for free. That's just pathetic.

same thing happened to my gf phone yesterday. dropped from maybe 1.5 feet, back totally shattered... I`m heading to AppleStore today to have them look at it.. it`s all good that we`re suppose to be careful with our phones, but I highly question the quality if it brakes from a fall that could happen to anyone.. (I would even call this an accident, just normal wear and tear).. I`ve had all models of the phone, and no matter how careful you are, at some point it will drop.. (that`s at least my experience after 15 years of using mobile phones).
thankfully I bought the phone with my amex card, so if apple woun`t fix it for free, I`m covered ..

I think i would cry too if i might have had to pay $199 and then ending up getting a free replacement. ;)
