Personally, i think that waxing gives a better feeling. It doesnt leave any stubble and, if you get used to it, it is apparently painless. (OK i dont know as i am a guy and dont have any experience with this).

waxing is great... so long as you can handle the pain. personally, i've only had my eyebrows waxed... but i know a lot of ladies that swear by it. from legs to brazillians - they wouldn't do it any other way.

from my experience - waxing does hurt. but only for a little while. the initial pain of ripping the hairs from their routes is excrutiating (sp?) but it fades into nothing soon after.

i prefer to take the less painful route... despite the fact that it might lead to the odd cut or scratch.

Do those girl razors with the huge bar of moisturizer around them work well? It seems like a genius idea if you ask me, but then again, I don't have to shave massive parts of my body at a time either, so I'm no expert.

As for shaving the face, I use 3 part system: shaving cream, then a 'tonic' + a lotion afterward. Seems to reduce the post shaving irritation by a fair amount.

I keep telling my missus that I want to wax my chest. It's not excessively hairy, it just seems to have a pointless amount of hair.
She doesn't believe me though, I know she'd enjoy ripping the strips of me.

About 11 months ago I went a little odd and shaved all the hair off myself, except eyebrows and hair on my head (shaving that off would be too weird).
I don't think I've itched so much in my entire life!!

They're overrated if you ask me. Just a thin strip of moisturiser and its good, not something as huge as the other ones.

my boyfriend has the same kinda concerns about his chest hair (he has his fair share i assure you :))... i used this nair stuff on him (it was my suggestion btw) because i know that shaving can lead to irritation... especially in areas that haven't been shaved before. his skin got SUPER irritated - i think that stuff is a terrible idea anyways. the whole basis of it is that it removes the hair from the surface... it doesn't even last as long as shaving (from my experience).

I'll go with waxing for the longer lasting effect and some pain!:D

hahahahaha, Fortunately I'm nowhere near that hairy!!

Just become a man!

I only started shaving recently with razors/blades, hence the title of this post. Before that i always used an electric philishave with 3 rotating heads which hard about "45 small blades" as they say underneath the guard.

I think shaving how most people do shave is the normal man-thing, lathering and using a razor - the every man morning ritual. At the moment though i dont shave in the morning, shave late afternoon. Good for bed :D LOL it'll be irrisistable.

Anyway, so one day i was browsing the local chemist looking at all the different varities or razors. Most of them are expensive and the cartridges even more expensive. I spotted the all famous bic, but i seen and heard from other people bic can mess up your face badly. So, still, i went to for a bic. No, but i went for the bic sensitive just thought oh what the heck never heard of this one slicing ones face and didnt really think that much of it at that time. So, those pink handled bic are good, never had a nick or cut, so i've been able to get 5 cuts with the same 1-bladed razor and still going! gotta few left..

...im also trying the gillette blue - this ones more better than coz it has 2 blades so less scraping.

All these different razors on the shelves, specially in boots looks nice and attractive, so ive decided im gonna give every razor out there on the shelves a try hence, my nick: newbladerunner
Title: I've started with the Gillette Sensor Excel, i used to luv their TV commericial, i was gonna start with somthing older like the gillette contour, not sure whats the difference between the two. But anyway im gonna work my way up to the mach3 then stop and down the wilkinso sword range and then come back to fusion.

My ultimate goal is survive the sharpest razors with out any bad nicks or cuts then go for a DE. The ultimate classic super sharp blade shave with no guard-wire and no angle. Yesterday was my first shave with the sensor excel, i think i did about 4 passes with the new 3 blade razor - no irritation so far but i havent dont against the grain yet and bcoz im new to this razor i didnt shave BBS.

So, who else is using/used any other razor other than mach3 or fusion.

tell me your disposable and cartridge experience.

I use the Fusion 5+1 with VIBRATION!

I'm such a geek.

Actually, it does an excellent job, and the blads last for-EVER!

And now, a story the shaving-the-chest conversation brings to mind.

I knew a fellow who related a story to me about a cadre of guys who shaved their chest with straight razors. Anyway, one is apparently supposed to put fingers on the nipple with the opposing hand.

One fellow didn't and ZOPP! Shaved his nipple clean off.

I haven't complained about my face bleeding since hearing this...

I used to use a Sensor, but I found the handle poorly designed, especially for backhanding the grip and going against the grain. The Mach 3 is much better in that regards. I have not noticed much difference between the 2 and 3 blade razors, but I have not tried the 4, 5, or whatevers.

My routine - I shave every other day (Would shave less then that if my wife would let me) in the shower with soap and plenty of hot water. A mirror in the shower helps with the sideburns. If I shaved with the grain, I might as well not bother shaving. I have not cut myself in ages, but I do get the occasional ingrown hair and slight razor burn, usually when I press too hard or make a few too many passes.

I thought the handle would be a bit too long than my gillette II disposable, it was alright actually. When you start shaving theres not much difference holding it. Looking at the design of the sensor excel and mach3, i think sensor excel has abit of a classic design of the handles in the way of a DE. To me it could be the next step up to a DE.

At the moment i shave once a week (ending up with 0.5cm bristles). Im gonna try shaving against the grain this time, so far with the disposables i havent had an irritation with the gillette II doing multiple passes against the grain.

I thought that with sharp blades like sensor excel 3 blades, mach3, DE, etc you're suppose to shave carefully and slowly with short strokes to prevent nicks, cuts, irritation, etc. I didnt have any problems. After initially being carefull i just whizzed through. So, soon looking to go up to a more sharper blade.

I shave right after my morning shower but before I eat breakfast - when you start eating breakfast the blood flow in your face increases and if by chance you cut yourself you bleed more. I have rarely ever cut myself but I'm very careful, for some reason my face bleeds like crazy from a razor cut but I don't bruise easily.

But if you shower before you shave, your face becomes a bit "puffed up" from being wet and being rubbed in the shower, so you're actually not getting a very close shave anyway. ;)

I shave (my face) in the shower, but only because I don't care and it's easy.

Never, ever shave against the grain. Keep your razors sharp and clean - a blunt razor hurts like hell because it pulls the hair out instead of cutting it.

I alway shave against the grain. I don't see anything wrong with it if I don't get ingrown hairs.

I use either the Schick Quattro Power or the Gillette Fusion, depending on what kind of mood I'm in. Also I stopped using shaving cream: all I'm using is the lather from some liquid facial cleanser. It makes it a heck of a lot easier to rinse the blade.

Shaving against the grain is my style. In fact, I literally stretch parts of my face to get as close of a shave as I can. May get some minor bleeding in one or two spots, but it goes away when I take a shower.

I use Gilette M3 Power. I can definitely tell the difference compared to my old Quattro, and I recently changed to Fusion shaving gel. Smooth as a baby's arse, I tell ya.

When I used cheap ones, I just cut myself all the time.

Yes, to Chundles you listen - shave with the grain and not against - reduces nicks and cuts and the split ends that cause in-grown hairs...

so i had a bit of a mishap yesterday in the tub when i was shaving my legs. it seems that the 4 blades on my razor might be a little too much. i cut my leg and it bled pretty badly.

what kinda razor do you have? do you buy into the "50 blades + 1" razors that are coming out today? do you think they actually work better? or is it a scam?

To be honest - i found i got a closer shave with the $0.50 bic razors than i do with the venus.

is it just me?

i use gillette mach 3 on my face..whenever i shave. does an excellent job. of course, i haven't shaved in about 2 months as i grow my deer hunting beard...didn't realize how much gray i have :)

I use the Shick Intuition (the one for sensitive / dry skin) - I've found it's about the only razor I can use now. My skin became really sensitive a few years back, and my boyfriend actually bought me one to try out because I'd been complaining about how shaving would dry out my skin and leave a rash for a week or more after that would be really itchy at first and then hurt, and he just wanted to help out. I'm glad he did, because I would have just passed it off as a gimmick that wasn't worth it.

How do you use that thing?

You put the razor blade on the right onto the top of the razor on the left.
Then you wind the bottom bit until the wings on the top fix the blade.

Now you put soap and water on the hairy face and move the blade along the skin, which should remove the hair, if you hold the razor in the correct angle and if the blade is still sharp enough.

The razor is over 50 years old and I only tried once or twice other ones. But nothing can beat this machine, if your beard is a couple of days old. And it's dead cheap as well: One blade lasts around a month and costs less than £ 0.50.
