I agree with Black&Tan about the MSNBC link (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6886845/). Actually a pretty good article.

I'm surprised that no one else mentioned that you need a shaving brush. This has been the key for me. I used to exclusively shave against the grain and after now I get a just as a good a shave with less irritation by shaving with the grain.

If you're lazy get "The Art of Shaving" starter kit - it has a brush, oil, cream, and aftershave for $40. Also, get a cheap plastic shaving stand from the website to hold the brush upside down.

Glycerine soap (Neutrogena)
Shaving oil
Brush with Taylor's cream
Shave with the grain
Re-wet brush and apply more cream
Shave with the grain again
Any aftershave without alcohol

= smooth shave with no irritation. It really only takes a few minutes more than regular shaving, and is totally worth it.

Electric shavers just don't work for me. I'm a bit too hairy (or uncoordinated).

i tried one once... it felt like someone was individually plucking every hair out of my face! OUCH!!!

Never again....

on a side note, when i was in college (way back when)... ran into someone in the dorm community bathrooms that was trying to shave with soap and a butter knife!

Seriously.... im not joking.... for a minute i though he was trying to cut his throat

What is that guy thinking. I cannt even see how that would remove any of the hair at all plus it sounds like it would really hurt.

As for me. I havent shaved in about a week really since I desided to try going for the full beard. But when I do shave it always with the grain. Going the other way causes a lot of irriation.
