Forgive me, but I still don't understand the trick. The trial is for individual account, so how would family sharing work? Would it just be the specific user ID having the trial?
Hi Ian, the first 3 months trial can be either Family account or personal account. You can choose when you sign up for the first time. Hence your first trial can be family and therefore such account would add Apple Music to all accounts in the family sharing.
As I wrote earlier, in the very early years of Apple Music 2016–2018 or so it worked that you could cancel trial during the trial and it was still valid and working till end of the trial. For example, your trial should end April 1, 2021, but you could cancel the trial on February 15 and it still worked till April 1.
Now, generally all trials are different, Apple Music or Apple TV+ included. If you would cancel your trial in the above example, Apple Music would end exactly on February 15, regardless original trial was valid till April 1.
And now back to the hack. You could easily have Apple Music by activating Apple Music trial for family on some “fake” account and then adding it to your family, if you still have free spot in Family Sharing (maximum is 6 accounts). All family members would get Apple Music as well. However now, when you add user with Apple Music trial (doesn’t matter if personal or family), the trial is ended immediately. So no worth of doing it anymore.
Nonetheless, you still can activate new account every three months, but you would need always to switch accounts on your iPhone/iPad/Mac/…, so I would say it is not worth it because of the hassle around it.
