I suppose you think shoplifting is fine too? This mindset is the reason prices are not lower. Cheating hurts everyone.

To be fair, this of all crimes is pretty much a victimless one. Apple is sitting on cash reserves of hundreds of billions of dollars, and pays artists for streams of their music during the trial periods.

I don't agree that "this mindset is the reason prices are not lower". If the handful of people who can be bothered to go through that process of scamming a free trial every three months were to stop doing so and start paying Apple $10 a month instead, we wouldn't see a fall in prices.

I cant figure out how to actually activate the offer? If I follow the link in Dolly’s tweet it just takes me to Shazam, where I can play a portion of 9 to 5? Has anyone succeeded in getting it to work, and how did you do it?
I think if you hit the play button there, it’ll take you to the Music app where the offer appears.

P.S.: I only got a two-month trial but I already had a three month trial some time ago (though I don’t remember whether I used the same AppleID Bach then).

P.P.S.: This only worked on my iPhone. On my iPad I got the message that this offer only works on iOS devices.

If that is accurate, that isn't very welcoming for Android users who can use the app on their phone and subscribe. The offer should be open to all platforms that run the AM app, in my opinion.

When Apple Music launched there was some controversy that artist weren’t paid for plays done during free trials. I don’t remember whether that changed or not (if that were the case the money would come partially out of artists’ pockets).

The price of Apple Music is driven by (price) competition with mainly Spotify. It might even be that the fewer users Apple Music has, the more it might be inclined to lower its price (though in reality this is done by giving initial discounts via free trials).

But that could also be because my browser might be set to return a Mac as the ‘user agent’ and the real limitation is that it only works on non-desktop computers (ie, phones and tablets).

Welp, I only got 2 months trial. Would've been nice if it were 5, but beggars cannot be choosers. :D
Wish Apple would convert my AppleTV+ trial into Apple music. I listen to music, but I have spent literally zero seconds on AppleTV+.

How did you get to the trial? When I follow the link, it just opens Shazam with no obvious visible offer
This is what I did.

Download Shazam on your iPhone, play the music on your PC or other phone (just search youtube for it, Dolly has the official song on her channel). Run Shazam and it will recognize the song, and there should be a play song button on the screen. Press it, it should open up Apple music and the offer for the trial. Accept it and you will be forwarded to redeem a code for the trial.

Oeh nice.

Great trick I use is making a new AppleID and activate a trial and then add the new user to my family sharing group. You can almost have infinite free trials this way. When the trial expires remove the user and repeat with a new promo.
The problem is I already have six real Apple ids in family sharing (six in my family in my household). Six is the limit by Apple. Glad I did not have another kid!!

I’m not much of a country music fan, but it‘s really hard to get Jolene out of my head when I hear it. She strikes me as among the few truly warm hearted people to reach her level of success.

Dolly Parton never ages. I just can’t figure out why......
To quote Dolly herself, “It costs me a lot of money to look this cheap!”

Another great quote: “I don’t mind the dumb blonde jokes because I know I’m not dumb, and I know I’m not blonde.”

Forgive me, but I still don't understand the trick. The trial is for individual account, so how would family sharing work? Would it just be the specific user ID having the trial?

And that's exactly why they won't do it. Apple Music doesn't really need a ton of promotion anymore to get subscribers. They have a higher hill to climb getting their video streaming off the ground.

Trying to get this for my wife, does it work on the Android AM?
I tried creating a new Apple ID on my Android, and when redeeming the code, it specifically said only for iOS users. Then it defaulted to the regular 3 month trial.

It was changed, that's why I said it.

So it’s ok to swindle someone when they have cash in their wallet?

Well, it's comparatively more ok to swindle a handful of pennies off a company with literally $200,000,000,000 in the bank by taking advantage of a loophole in the trial system, than it is to kick a tramp and steal his hat. I'm going to go on record and say this is what I believe.

Hi Ian, the first 3 months trial can be either Family account or personal account. You can choose when you sign up for the first time. Hence your first trial can be family and therefore such account would add Apple Music to all accounts in the family sharing.

As I wrote earlier, in the very early years of Apple Music 2016–2018 or so it worked that you could cancel trial during the trial and it was still valid and working till end of the trial. For example, your trial should end April 1, 2021, but you could cancel the trial on February 15 and it still worked till April 1.

Now, generally all trials are different, Apple Music or Apple TV+ included. If you would cancel your trial in the above example, Apple Music would end exactly on February 15, regardless original trial was valid till April 1.

And now back to the hack. You could easily have Apple Music by activating Apple Music trial for family on some “fake” account and then adding it to your family, if you still have free spot in Family Sharing (maximum is 6 accounts). All family members would get Apple Music as well. However now, when you add user with Apple Music trial (doesn’t matter if personal or family), the trial is ended immediately. So no worth of doing it anymore.

Nonetheless, you still can activate new account every three months, but you would need always to switch accounts on your iPhone/iPad/Mac/…, so I would say it is not worth it because of the hassle around it.

I just had a 2-month trial that ended at the end of January. When I tried to sign up for this promo, I got a message saying that I had already redeemed the promo code.

So, I tried deleting Shazam and then re-downloading it. When I tried to redeem the promo again, I got a new message that said I had redeemed the maximum number of promo codes for my Apple ID.

Apple TV ends the moment you click on cancel. Apple Music runs until the end of the trial (or paid subscription) period.

Mine work like that, anyway.

I get a "CANNOT REDEEM CODE" You've already redeemed this offer.

I also get a "CANNOT REDEEM CODE" You've already redeemed this offer. - Does it state in the terms that if you had a previous trial you can't take advantage of this one?
