I want to take a vacation to europe but at the same time i'm into about getting my first car, the thing is that I want to finance it but if I do, would they allow me to travel in europe with it?

Wait...you want to buy a car in the US, ship it to Europe, drive it around for a bit, and ship it back to the US? Sounds like the biggest waste of money ever. Just rent one while you're over there.

Czesc, chcialem sprowadzic samochod z USA. Zajmujesz sie takimi sprawami?

I have a question. Anybody here know or can recommend company which can ship my car from US to Europe?? I'm slowly finishing my contract in US and gonna try to buy Nissan 350Z. Would like to know which company is reliable and whats the estimated cost of this kind of shipment (to Germany would be perfect)

Quite a few companies do this, its nothing special, US Military personnel stationed in Europe and Germany do this all the time with their cars.

However, you, unlike US Military, will have no special agreements with host governments so you will face the full cost of shipping, insurance, customs clearance, import tax (10% on cost of car + shipping + insurance), VAT (19% in Germany), modification and technical inspections. If the US version is different that the German version, i.e. not in the German database, then you will have a complete technical inspection which is very expensive as they will want proof that every element of the car is meeting German/EU standards. Otherwise the technical check is the normal check each car is getting every few years.

The only exception to the taxes is if you have owned the car for 6 months or more, and then you must not sell the car for one year after arriving in Germany.

Basically, its not worth it otherwise, and you may find that not many Germans are interested in buying an imported 350Z when there are plenty of local models already for sale.

Its not much fun, to go through that process, and then try to sell a car into a saturated market.

Fortunately I dont have to pay taxes cos according to our law as long as you legally worked over two years your belongings are tax/duty free

Nope, you *must* have owned the car or any other item for 6 months or more.

I think its worth the hassle. here its about 30 000$, when I call dealer in Poland they told me for the same car nearly 70 000$ !!!!!

German versions, new or low km's, are selling for 40.000 euro, imports from the US also new are selling for 26.000 euro (inclusive all import costs). Thats roughly 34.000 US dollars.

Your Polish dealer would most likely offer you 20.000 euro if you turned up with a 350Z, after you had done all the hard work to import it. For him it would be great, for you, not so great ;)

Sorry, not read the other posts, so it may have already been said, but the amount of money that you're spending to ship it, with tax etc,

You'd be better off selling it and buying a new one when you get there

Shipping my car to Europe & back

I'm going to Europe in the fall and want to ship my Corvette there and back.
thought it would be fun to drive it there.
So, I need help shipping.....and anything else I need to do.
Is it better to ship it to one country or another?
Do I have to bring the car up to any country's standards? it's an 09

No intention of selling, just want to drive it.

Insurance, repair issues (hopefully not)

So, anyone had the experience or can advise me

Terror Shipping Car From The Us To Europe

If you are thinking on shipping your car to Europe keep these two names in mind and NEVER contact them: Titan Interntional AND Unity Van Lines... they "work" together and made my shipping a nightmare. First they told me that they were shipping cars every week to Europe, I called 2 months after leaving my car in their facilities - with belongings inside - just to find out that my car was still in the US waiting for a container to get full, hours later they said that there was a mistake and my car was already on the way to Europe, when the car got here is when the real nightmare started. Titan never send a list of my belongings or notified that the car was full of stuff, so the container was scanned, opened and obviously i had to pay for that, plus they never send the original title that they keep with them and, of course, never returned emails. As you may imagine the "person in charge" is never in office and of course you will never hear his voice: bottom line TITAN SHIPPING and UNITY VAN LINES will lie in order to get your money and once they get it they would treat you as dirt knowing that you are thousand kilometers away, really do yourself a favor and hire somebody else.

DON'T go for this two names

Whatever you do don't hire UNITY VAN LINES or TITAN INTERNATIONAL, you'll never get your time in time and they loose important documents, includind original title, in the process, really a complete nightmare.

Unfortunetly you cant export a car that has a lien by the bank anywhere. If your car was paid off, then you cna use i to travel in Europe and bring it back when you done. You can get a specia llicense plate and auto insurance to travel in Europe or can purchase temporary plates and Insurance in Europe. Usually Temp Plates nad Insurance is goodfor a month at the time.
My company specialty is Auto/Boat Shipping from USA and Canada to various countries in Europe, CIS, Russia and Middle East.
Just FYI, cost of shipping for 1 small / mid size car from New York or Miami to Bremerhaven Genrany for example is $675.00. Plus you will pay aprox Euro 200.00 for local charges. Average cost to most Europe Destinations is beteen $675.00 to $900.00 per car depending on thje size.

Doesn't sound like that car is being exported. 3 months shouldn't be a big deal and it's just a lien.

Your rates are really high compared to competitors. I was looking into leaving from Newark/Baltimore/Charleston and going to Southampton or Amsterdam. What are the local charges you quote? Never seen those before.

Well, if you're from Poland, than you probably know that a substantial amount of used vehicles is shipped from the US to Europe (usually Germany), from whence they're distributed mostly to Central and Eastern Europe. If you try Googling for car transport from US to Europe, you'll find that for about $2k you can get your car shipped over. Normally you drive the vehicle to a carrier's lot near a major city and then pick it up on the other side. I looked at transporting a car some time ago from Seattle to Germany, and I could have had it done for $2k in 4-8 weeks. Over there you would have to pick the vehicle up (likely Hamburg) and from there you drive it to Poland, where you would have to take care of the import paperwork.

Dang...I just noticed how old this thread is....

There are a number of companies and individuals that do this already, so you may want to engage your local Polish community and see if you can get some advice there. If not, try Googling or try to find some local Poles who can help you out.

And you're right, an average person here would not be aware of the price differential between purchasing a vehicle here, as compared to buying it over there. The cost you end up paying for in terms of transport is insignificant compared to the overall savings.

Shipping my car to POLAND as well!

Hey all... I am in the same boat and wanting to take my car with me when I move to Poland... I live in Phoenix AZ but could move it to east coast if the price is MUCH cheaper.. Now, i have a friend in Amsterdam if that would make it even cheaper... Any input on this would be greatly appreciated!!!!!!

Just google this as I'm suggesting in my last post. I was able to get quotes and all the information. Your friend in Amsterdam may only be useful if the shipper would unload your vehicle in Amsterdam. It would be more simple though to have them unload in Hamburg - your drive home will be shorter.

does anyone have updated info on shipping cars to EU?

I want to ship a 1987 Alfa Spyder to EU (Bordeaux area, France). Does anyone know of a good reasonably priced company?
Is there a least expensive port of entry in Europe or is it all about the same?
Does anyone know if you can drive it with your current US tags to your destination and deal with the paperwork there? For instance, if I were to ship to England where I have some work to finish but am taking the car to live in France, can I do my business in England then go to France and register it then?
Also, does anyone know if an older car has to go through the current emissions and other requirements there which are 'grandfathered' in US?
Does anyone know the current taxes etc for a car brought into France?
Thanks for help on any of the above

They don't search, they get scolded. They do search, they get scolded.

Personally I always suspect when things like this happen that a very "helpful" newbie will reply with a very helpful link to their own site. Oh, spammer games.

Sorry. I just thought creating a new thread would help get more useful answers. Never mind.

Those quotes don't seem that high to me. I googled the phrase "Shipping car overseas" and looked at all 10 websites. Some I didn't even bother putting my information in because they looked kind of spammy. As far as I know, an American tourist can go into Europe for up to 6 months without paying import fees. If at that time the tourist decides he/she wants to stay in EU, then they have to pay the applicable import tax.

Update on 4/20/2011: I found an international car shipping company based in the United States who specializes in shipping cars overseas.

Car shipping

I just flew back from Spain and my car was waiting for me at my home in London. I recommend you give Europa Vehicle Logistics a call, the guy I spoke to (James) was very helpful:

The price was pretty reasonable too.
