Are Apple displays anything other than a premium status version of readily available commodity displays from other suppliers?

I ask.

Rocketman

No. The 30" ACD is the only sRGB 30" display currently on the market. All other 30" displays are wide gamut, which is horrible for everything aside from photo editing. For everything besides photo editing, the colors are over-saturated, especially the reds and greens. Apple's 30" ACD may be old technology, but it is the only 30" option for people who do not want wide gamut.

HP ZR30w... 30" beauty

I got tired of waiting on Apple to come out with new monitors. I just bought the new HP ZR30w with a matte screen fro MacMall for the HP Promo price of $1,299.

It has all the newest technology. Read the review at AnandTech.

I use Photoshop and Lightroom so I needed a wide gamut monitor that works in the Adobe RGB color space. There is NO OVER SATURATION at all. Just a beautiful 30" matte display.

I have it hooked up to my new 17" MBP i7 via a display port connection. I use it in a 2 screen configuration with my MBP as my side kick monitor.

This works out very well for me....

I went down to MacMall in Santa Monica and sat in front of a HP 3065 whichis the predecessor to the ZR30w. I had a 24" on one side and a 27" on the other. I was done... Something about a 30" display that just makes the others look "small" LOL... 2560X1440 is a VERY nice piece of real estate...

Check it out... Apple has a new standard to match IMHO....
