I have just experienced the stupidest idea in shipping EVER. I live in Anchorage, Alaska. My iPhone was shipped here, cleared customs, and arrived at the FedEx site yesterday at 2:30pm. So, I logically figure it will be put on the truck this morning for delivery.
I check the FedEx tracking site this morning, and my iPhone has been sent to Memphis!

It still shows the final destination as being Anchorage, but I talked to a representative at FedEx to ask "what the heck!?" and he says that the extra "tour" is because Apple wants it delivered on the 9th. I asked him why they just didn't hold it at the Anchorage facility (thus cutting the chance it will get lost during the round trip to Memphis), and he just keeps babbling that Apple wants it delivered on the 9th, even if they have to fly it around the planet to make sure it doesn't accidentally get put on the truck a day early.
Really, Apple and/or FedEx? It's so important that I get my phone on the 9th and not a day earlier that you are willing to take the chance it will get lost on two extra plane trips?
