what a tragedy

These events just sicken me... I mean, to kill yourself you have to be pretty screwed up in the head, but to take other innocent lives with you... that is horrific.

I know everyone will remember me as some sort of monster but please understand that I just don't want to be a burden on the ones that I care for my entire life.

And so by killing others he things that the "burden" will be lifted???

I guess that is the miracle of humanity.
What a world we live in.

I agree but that is not all, we need to work harder at not letting kids become depressed- by providing them with better schools to learn in, more loving homes that have better educated parents who pay attention to their children, what they watch, do see, eat, play, etc. so they can not only be involved with their children's lives, but can be on the look out for warning signals.
Sooooo many parents just ignore the warning signs by just saying...oh, that is just how all teenagers are now a days!! Unfortunately there are many teenagers in a depressed state...just like the adults in our world....this is such a big problem that there isn't one solution!!!!

But the best way to improve the situation is provide EVERY human being with an environment they can grow up in that is supportive, loving, and rich with real social friendships that are strong! Humans need to be respected and most of the humans that resort to this sort of behavior have not been respected in so many ways!!!

I might want to point out that warning signs are not always there. It is very easy to keep an outward front and still be torn to shreds on the inside. Falling apart. I am talking from experince here.
A few years ago I was talking with my mom about some of this stuff and topic came up and she ask me. I told her the truth in 6th grade I came very close to going over the line and just ending my life. It took her by surprise. She knew I was having a hard time and did do a lot of stuff to help reduce the pain (like getting me moved to another class) She did admit during that time she did not know how to relate to the struggles I was having since it was so far beyond what ever she could say. It is sad but it is the truth.
Do not pretend that warning signs are always there. Also when people start looking for them they go nuts and see them where they are not.

Now yes we need to keep a better eye on depression and what not but at the same time we do not need to be giving out drug to corrected it. Medicating for depression is not something to be done first. Yes I am on anti depressants but it took me months of trying other stuff before I went on them. I did the counciling route. The person looking over my case started asking me about my pasted and noted that I struggle depression my entire life I am among the few people who need to stay on the drugs for very long term. Normal drug treatment is 9-12 months.

Sorry to hear about your past troubles...good to see you are going strong today.

I agree 100% about meds....I am not an advocate of many meds really.

I know there are many issues here, many "warning signs" that don't show themselves, I know they are not always there, I know that one can go crazy looking for them as well. I just know that most of the large scale killer issues that have risen up over the last decade have all had many warning signs of major issues!! How many times do we find out afterwards another student knew they were going to do something (or said they were going to.)

There are so many factors to this issue that I just wanted to hit on the learning and living environments that people grow up and live in that are not anywhere near ideal...it is sad. I have not had a perfect upbringing and life, but I have been very very lucky!!! Lets make it better for more people in this world!!!

from what I read on this article the warning signs where not as clear in this case. Plus they are hard to see unless there is a huge change. If one does not really know the person they can no see them.

It seems he just went off the deep end and just decide to kill all those people.

Hindsight is 2020 and people always say they should of done this or that but when one looks at it with just considering the facts that where there at the time it took place it might be clear why no one noticed. It always bother me when people start going after some one with hindsight but from the other direction yeah it not something one would think of every happening with what they knew.

Concealed carry should never be restricted otherwise these people will continue to feel safe entering a building with the intent to do others harm. We call them victim-disarmament zones. Once disarmed, you are a victim.

So, Bush was there earlier,
Homeland Security was there discussing mall security with the owners,
and the killer was on a serotonin reuptake inhibitor- just like all the psycho's you hear about- like the virginia tech guy, the columbine kids and even the uni-bomber and McVeigh. There isn't a crazy event like this where the perps aren't on SSRI's.

20 years ago people weren't on SSRI's and there wasn't psycho shootings and bombings. There was 17 year olds ordering Uzi's out of catalogues, but they didn't blast people with them all crazy. All the talk was about accidental shootings. That's where all the lock-your-gun-up-around-kids laws came in.

Now they're going to want more gun-control, but don't be fooled into becoming a disarmed victim.

there are many more stories about ssri drugs turning people into physco killers; the high profile stories are just the tip of the iceburg. we really need to combat the drug (pharmaceuticals) culture in this country (not likely with the drug companies piling in more profit with the drugs) and have less of these people on drugs (as in we don't go to them as a first resort).

there's a video about children on anti-depressants, and about halfway through, there's a segment about the whole drugs and psycho killer link(it's at the start of the section already, just sit back and enjoy, and i encourage that you watch the whole video).

I don't want to take people's rights away or anything so don't get me wrong with my next comments- I don't really care one way or another what someone else carries, etc.

But the ability for people to carry doesn't deter *these* people or any other similar criminals....
come on, really, people who use guns against humans in this manner or for robberies, etc. don't think about the fact that someone else might be packing....they just don't. that would take a rational person to think that. Same reason people who deal drugs don't think "wow, that person might be a cop so I won't deal." This is the reason the threat of prision time doesn't work with criminals...real criminals...they don't think before they act, cause if they did think, they wouldn't act!!!Carrying weapons everywhere, threatening prison time, etc. don't work, they are just band-aids to try and improve a bad situation.

I can see your point. But in these cases there would most likely be a lot fewer deaths as a heroic citizen with his CC puts a few holes in the psycho instead of waiting around for the cops.

But you are going to get cases like this
linkety
It's a double edged sword, who knows, you might be putting the guns in the hand of the psycho yourself.

Except that's a logistical nightmare.

Joe A pulls an assualt rifle, opens fire on a crowded, holiday mall. Joe B, standing behind him, hears some shots, turns around, drops him. Joe C is in front of Joe A, he ducks for cover, turns around, and shoots the guy with the gun. Which just happens to be Joe B now, as Joe A is on the ground. Joe D is a little slower, sees Joe C with a gun, and now we've got two dead "heroes".

Joe A pulls a gun, opens fire. Joes B through D pull their guns, open fire, take out Joe A, and Joes E through H end up catching stray bullets.

Joe B's bullets rip through Joe A, take out Joes C and D behind him.

Joe B's a crappy shot, takes out C and D with A.

And so forth. Poor civilian shots, mistaken identity, too many shots in an enclosed area. Interestingly, if Joe A didn't have access to such a powerful weapon, he'd be a whole lot less dangerous to begin with. More guns is not a solution to gun violence.

I think his point is that, while we don't need people going to the mall armed with grenade launchers and miniguns, that if someone is licensed, and accepts the responsibility to own a gun, that it isn't a bad thing. Just look at what happened in Colorado on Sunday. If that lady doesn't shoot the gunman, a LOT more people die.

It's different, she is there as a security guard, (even though it's volunteer work) and she used to be an ex-law enforcement officer as well (which is probably why she is qualify to volunteer as a security personnel).
