The only thing I learned from the photos is that wing-tip eye liner is so hot right now!

I was impressed when Portrait Mode came out originally. It was novel and looked pretty decent. Then they made it where the depth of field was adjustable, which was also cool. But the entire time I always felt something about the photos looked weird and I couldn't put my finger on it. But now I have, and I've noticed these depth of field adjustments are basically just a gaussian blur of what it thinks is the background. To truly adjust depth of field, the 'blurring' should increase as the background distance increases. So things far away are super blurry, but things closer behind the subject aren't as blurry. Portrait Mode seems to apply the same blur to everything.

Agreed.

Stunning! Incredible photos but also congratulations to photographer, very nice subjects and colours.

Just got the notification that my 128 GB XR in Red arrives tomorrow !

When it does, I will fine-tune Photosets' UI to the XR ASAP, & submit to AAPL App Review by midnight on Friday, so that it has a chance of being Reviewed & Approved on Saturday.

And because both the XR & the XS Max have the exact same UI "points" dimensions, the XS Max ALSO benefits from any UI changes made ! ... here, 2x factor vs 3x factor, for rendering.

BTW, I'm upgrading from a 7+, which has served me well the past 2+ years ! ... paid $769 for that when it was new ... now, new Dual Camera iPhones cost $999+ :(

Oh'well, & as such, the XR is going to be AAPL's biggest Success Story since the iPhone 6/6+ ! ... of that I have NO doubt.

And, I would NOT be at ALL surprised if AAPL (soon) sees a Flood of XS & XS Max Returns, from those who are still in their 30-day window.

Also, was hoping AAPL would offer both the Clear Case & the Silicone Case for the XR by now, but NO WHERE to be seen :(

I’m a complete novice when it comes to photography, but I’m not exactly ‘moved’ by the colour, quality and/or richness of these photos. Everything looks a little flat and barely distinguishable from photos taken on my iPhone 6. The opposite is true of the XS photos I’ve seen online or had sent to me by friends - those are stunning and the detail is astonishing. Nevertheless, my XR arrives Monday.

I agree. There's nothing particularly good about these. They look like standard phone shots that--aside from the portrait mode effect--would look basically the same from any phone going back to about the 6.

boudoir photography

boudoir photography is a photographic style featuring intimate, romantic, and sometimes erotic images of its subjects in a photographic studio, bedroom or private dressing room environment,[citation needed] primarily intended for the private enjoyment of the subject and his or her romantic partners.[1] It is distinct from glamour and art nudephotography in that it is usually more suggestive rather than explicit in its approach to nudity and sexuality, features subjects who do not regularly model, and produces images that are not intended to be seen by a wide audience, but rather to remain under the control of the subject.

boudoir photography

So, MistrSynistr, there is no depth of field on that photo above, it is just smudged bacground except the person but quality bokeh is about depth of field. ... Once again ... DEPTH ... What Xr does in portrait is very fakish and have nothing to do with budoir photography. It just smudged background but bokeh is about space depth.

Here are some wide angle shots with deep depth of field - long story short very odd.

Not gonna lie, I'm not impressed...

These shots all look so dull... But this brings me to a question that I haven't realized before: can the XS/Max take portrait or depth photos with the wide angle lens? I've been in a few scenarios where I don't want to "Move farther away from your subject"!!

Most of these look like they were taken by my mother-in-law... They should have sent someone with a talent for, an eye for, good photography, composition. This is why they look so dull. The camera itself seems great, though...

Conspiracy Theory Here:

AAPL will announce INSTORE ONLY Availability of their XR cases late today OR very early tomorrow, to force / generate Foot Traffic to their Stores the next 3+ days !

Fine. Then people can get a Spigen case from Amazon and save $30.

Maybe it’s just me, but I always hold my phone in landscape mode when I take a photo or record a video.

So, you’re saying you take portraits in landscape?

It’s the same camera.

I have a feeling with one of these you could post this to Instagram/Twitter and say it was shot with a pixel 3 and everyone would start clamoring about how much better it looks than an iphone. It’s much harder to tell the difference unless it’s the same photo side by side with a different camera. Coming from my iphone 6S+ I think this would be a huge upgrade for sure. It’s still remarkable to me how far these camera’s have come in the last four years. I also think a lot of people online discount how much actual skill and having a good eye matters.

proof it's not the camera it's the photographer. you can't buy talent in a piece of equipment

These photos don’t look very good to me, but I don’t think I’m seeing the actual original photo files the author of this article took. The photos I’m seeing look like they were posted at lower resolution to take less bandwidth for people reading this online.

My thoughts as well. I hope actual photos aren't as grainy.

This looks really ... really bad. It is unrealistic (and painful to watch in my opinion). Wide angle is not meant for that because brain can tell you the difference ... cause human eyes does not work like that.
Looks fine to me. Ever since Photoshop was introduced to photography, anything is a fair game.

Probably same as the Pixel 2 and 3s and I believe there were no issues.
[doublepost=1540527308][/doublepost]Heh... I like how you can easily tell who bought/ordered/wants an Xs iPhone in this thread based on their first comment.
