As stated - if you want to play all older games; you'll need/want XP - if you want to play newer games; you'll need Vista. You may have luck with Vista's "Compatibility Mode".

The decision of which will depend on what era games you will be playing.

Note that M$ is dropping support for XP soon too! - so

actually, Microsoft won't drop support for XP until 2011 or 2012, I forget which one, but it's no time zune.

I stuck with my old buddy XP!

Hey guys. I tested FS2004 on Vista at a store and it worked great. I tried playing FAR CRY and it wouldn't run:( So i decided to go with my longtime buddy WINDOWS XP SP2. The seller also told me that XP is more reliable so I stuck with it. When Vista becomes madatory then it will only cost like 100$ for the upgrade. I'll post pics of FS2004 and Crysis when i get the the new Mac Pro!:):apple::)

Thank God

..that i read this thread before installing home basic. I never realized that it would only see one of my processors. Well I just bought a copy of bus. for pretty cheap and its time to sell my copy of home basic.

Vista is a decent operating system, but still has a few miles to go before I'll adopt it. I work with clients day in and day out with both Vista and XP and solve all sorts of issues related to gaming or just simple basic multi-tasking.

I do see hope for the latest OS, perhaps in the next 3 or 4 months, and know Vista will be required for some gaming platforms... but not yet. For now.. i'm sticking with XP.
